Symmetry In Inorganic And Coordination Compounds written by Franca Morazzoni and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-04-28 with Science categories.

This book addresses the nature of the chemical bond in inorganic and coordination compounds. In particular, it explains how general symmetry rules can describe chemical bond of simple inorganic molecules. Since the complexity of studying even simple molecules requires approximate methods, this book introduces a quantum mechanical treatment taking into account the geometric peculiarities of the chemical compound. In the case of inorganic molecules, a convenient approximation comes from symmetry, which constrains both the electronic energies and the chemical bonds. The book also gives special emphasis on symmetry rules and compares the use of symmetry operators with that of Hamiltonian operators. Where possible, the reactivity of molecules is also rationalized in terms of these symmetry properties. As practical examples, electronic spectroscopy and magnetism give experimental confirmation of the predicted electronic energy levels. Adapted from university lecture course notes, this book is the ideal companion for any inorganic chemistry course dealing with group theory.

Symmetry In Coordination Chemistry written by John P. Jr. Fackler and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-12-02 with Science categories.

Symmetry in Coordination Chemistry provides a comprehensive discussion of molecular symmetry. It attempts to bridge the gap between the elementary ideas of bonding and structure learned by freshmen, and those more sophisticated concepts used by the practicing chemist. The book emphasizes the use of symmetry in describing the bonding and structure of transition metal coordination compounds. The book begins with a review of basic concepts such as molecular symmetry, coordination numbers, symmetry classification, and point group symmetry. This is followed by separate chapters on the electronic, atomic, and magnetic properties of d-block transition elements; the representation of orbital symmetries in a manner consistent with the point group of a molecule. Also included are discussions of vibrational symmetry; crystal field theory, ligand field theory, and molecular orbital theory; and the chemistry of a select few d-block transition elements and their compounds. This book is meant to supplement the traditional course work of junior-senior inorganic students. It is for them that the problems and examples have been chosen.

During the course of far-infrared investigations of inorganic and coordina tion compounds at Argonne National Laboratory in the years 1962-1966, it became apparent that no suitable book existed which correlated and dis cussed the important vibrations occurring in this region for these molecules. Early in 1967 the initial steps were taken to write such a book. Then, in 1968, an excellent text by Professor David M. Adams entitled Metal-Ligand and Related Vibrations was published. At this point serious consideration was given to discontinuing work on this book. However, upon examination of Adams' book, it became clear that the references covered only the period to 1966. This field of research is accelerating so tremendously, and the period 1966-1969 has seen so many new studies, that upon reconsideration it was decided to continue writing this text. The references in this book, particularly in the last several chapters, include many papers published in 1969. However, the proliferation of the far-infrared literature has made it impossible to present all the published material that has any bearing on the subject. Many titles do not pertain primarily to the far-infrared region as such, and some of this research has been omitted for this reason. Organometallic compounds have been neglected since the author feels that adequate reviews of that subject are available. Other studies may be missing simply because, owing to space limitations, only the more important researches could be considered. Of course, "importance" may, in this case, reflect the author's interest and prejudices.

The most comprehensive guide to infrared and Raman spectra of inorganic and coordination compounds-now fully revised and updated This book has served as the definitive guide to infrared and Raman spectroscopy of inorganic and coordination compounds from the time of its first publication in 1963. The Fifth Edition consists of two self-contained volumes: Part A describes basic theories of normal vibrations and their applications to relatively simple inorganic compounds, while Part B extends them to larger and more complex systems-coordination compounds, organometallic compounds, and bioinorganic compounds. Part B shows how one can deduce structural and bonding information from vibrational spectra. For this purpose, the compounds have been classified into each structural type, their vibrational frequencies and band assignments listed, and typical infrared/Raman spectra illustrated. Special emphasis has been placed on metal-ligand vibrations that appear in the low-frequency region. This new edition * Incorporates new topics, including complexes of carbon dioxide and dihydrogen and metal complex-DNA interactions * Offers many references to the latest research in the field * Reviews all important new results obtained on the subject * Provides many infrared and Raman spectral charts of typical compounds * Features 156 illustrations This is the best reference book for researchers and graduate students in this field today. Also Available: Infrared and Raman Spectra of Inorganic and Coordination Compounds, 5th Edition, Part A: Theory and Applications in Inorganic Chemistry, 1997 0-471-16394-5
