Lens On Syria written by Daniel Demeter and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Photography categories.

Between 2006 and 2009, the talented young American photographer Daniel Demeter traveled broadly throughout Syria, amassing nearly 30,000 photographs of the country. Lens on Syria presents the very best of that collection. It offers a remarkable glimpse into the lives and landscapes of pre-war Syria, serving as an evocative reminder of the country's long history, rich heritage, and diverse culture, so much of which has been threatened or destroyed completely since 2009. By sharing more than 400 of his stunning images - of Syria's warm and kindhearted people, vibrant markets, exciting landscapes, archaeological sites, historic monuments, and religious architecture - Demeter gives readers a powerful experience of the beauty of a Syria that has seen, tragically, far too much destruction. Lens on Syria 's high-resolution images are printed on high quality paper stock with detailed captions. Its seven chapters traverse all of Syria's major cities and historic sites along with many of the country's more remote and hidden treasures.

Syria is a country with a great deal to offer both tourists and investors. However, Syria suffers from a poor image internationally. Not much is known about the country and, unfortunately, Syria is often in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Media Minds found that there was very little good quality published material on Syria and nothing that could do justice to some of the great cultural treasures and natural beauty of the country. After consultation with the Syrian government and Syrian businessmen, Media Minds began work on a book that would fill this void in a unique and dramatic way. The result of this work was a stunning photographic book that shows the great beauty and diversity of Syria through both its rich historical side and its modern face. The text to "Syria Revealed" is kept to around 80 words a page but each word is carefully considered. Each page can stand alone and contains a text that compliments the photograph, adding to the story with interesting facts without repeating its obvious content. The content of the book is arranged in a way that reflects the eye of a photographer and done with the intention of creating the most visually attractive format. There is a map at the end of the book to help situate the reader and identify the location of the images. The material is organised into fairly abstract chapter headings that break with the more traditional method of describing Syria along purely historical or geographical lines. In this way "Syria Revealed" portrays the many diverse sides to the country, the modern alongside the traditional. The book was designed for people with little time and was made as visually attractive as possible with a modern and original layout that is both simple and elegant. "Syria Revealed" does not contain stereotypical images such as veiled Islamic women, that can often be misconstrued. A great effort was made to ensure that all pictures were taken at the best time of day and of the year.

Syria: Remember Me bears witness in words and images to the strong, dignified, beautiful, and complex lives of the Syrian people from the fertile Euphrates River Valley to the wide-open expanse of the great Syrian Desert, from the maze of overflowing markets to the spacious interiors of gold-domed mosques. The photographs in this collection were taken over two decades, between 1991 and 2011 and precede the war that now sweeps the beleaguered land. Today, the media thrusts before us daily images of Syria that reveal only the devastation, grief, rage, and victimhood of war. It is the author's hope to expand and hearten that limited view. Syria: Remember Me offers readers a more humanizing encounter as they turn the pages and gaze into eyes of Syrians young and old, humble and proud, engaged in the simple miracle of living an ordinary day and a life lived in peace.

We Came From Fire written by Joey L. and has been published by powerHouse Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-07-02 with Photography categories.

Since March 2015, photographer and author Joey L. has gained unprecedented access to Kurdish guerrilla organizations fighting against ISIS, embedding himself into the chaos of the Iraq and Syrian Civil War on three separate trips. Three components meld to create an extraordinarily brave and important documentation: his medium format portrait photography, a written study of the history of the turmoil that led to the rise of armed Kurdish militias, and intimate journal notes of vivid personal experiences while working as a photographer in the war. The war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria has flooded our daily news with troubling statistics of massacres and mass migrations, yet there are faces and human stories at the heart of the conflict. Joey writes, "From Iraq, one crosses the Tigris River into war-torn Syria, and is catapulted into a worldview crafted by the guerrilla. You are welcomed back by familiar faces wearing a palette of earth tones interrupted by a brightly colored scarf - likely given to them by their mothers. Conversations over cigarettes and tea with much too much sugar often drift to conspiracy theories about the entire world plotting to destroy their cause. Oddly, they begin to make sense. The guerrilla's secretive hierarchy vanishes due to its compartmentalization, and you find yourself among individual Kurds who left their families with the intention of defending their culture and way of life. We had once again entered the world of the Kurdish guerrilla." During his travels, Joey observed ragtag volunteer guerrilla fighters with mysterious links to the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) grow into a fully functional army and the US-led coalitions most trusted partner--Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). With little official government support and just light weapons; brothers, sisters, former university students and refugees that once fled from their homes have now taken up arms together against a common enemy--radical jihadist groups that contest the secular social reformations in Kurdistan. Joey's uncanny ability to gain trust and his fearless and open attitude to the unexpected, combined with his genuine love for his subjects and their quest for independence gives We Came from Firea deeply felt sense of humanity.

*Includes pictures *Includes footnotes, online resources and a bibliography for further reading "I'm not a puppet. I wasn't made by the west to go to the west or any other country. I'm Syrian. I'm made in Syria. I have to live in Syria and die in Syria." - Bashar al-Assad, 2012 In December 2010, a 26-year-old Tunisian street vendor's self immolation triggered protests that spread from his hometown in Sidi Bouzid to cities across the country. The next month, on January 14, the country's autocratic president, Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali, fled the country. This would be the start of what became known as the "Arab Spring," which ultimately saw anti-government protests responded to with violence, reform, or both in countries across the Middle East. In Syria, the protests that began as early as January 2011 and increased in intensity the following March devolved into a complex armed conflict that involves multiple armed groups and wages to this day. Like the other dictators, Bashar al-Assad faced popular demonstrations against his regime at the height of the Arab Spring, but he steadfastly refused to step down from power, and the protests against him and his government quickly turned violent, which eventually enveloped Syria in a civil war that has already killed over 400,000, created over 4 million refugees, and shows no signs of ending anytime soon. In August 2016, over five and a half years after the initial protests, an image of a young boy captivated the world. Young Omran Daqneesh, who had been born around the time the Syrian civil war started, had been pulled out of a destroyed building in the Syrian city of Aleppo by a rescue squad and put inside an ambulance. He stared at the cameras - most likely in shock -covered in blood and debris from the collapsed building. His silence seemed more powerful than all the statements of condemnation from politicians around the world. This boy and his family were actually living the nightmare that Syrians across the country have experienced for more than five years. The video and image went viral and was picked up by several news outlets and spread quickly and globally across social media platforms. Once again, the average citizen was faced with images depicting the consequences of this deadly and seemingly intractable conflict. While citizens and politicians again debate and discuss what to do about the Syrian Civil War, the people on the ground continue to suffer. The city of Aleppo is one of many battlegrounds in the war, but it has been directly in the war since 2012 when protests erupted against the regime of Bashar Al-Assad and the rebels of the Free Syrian Army became involved in the conflict. In many ways, the city of Aleppo and the ongoing battle there can almost be thought of as a metaphor or microcosm for the civil war in general. Historically, Aleppo has been a very large and diverse city, comprised of several religious and ethnic groups living side by side throughout its long period of human inhabitancy. Syria itself is a large and diverse country, whose citizens include Sunnis, Shi'a, Christians, and Druze that come from Arab, Kurdish, Armenian, and other ethnic backgrounds. Interestingly, Aleppo has indeed become a battleground in which all the forces (both domestic and international) have come to exercise their agendas and their might against each other. The longer the parties fight, the further away they seem to get from peace agreements, and the more difficult it becomes to deescalate the conflict. Today, Syria remains a flashpoint in the Middle East, and Aleppo is at the center of it. The Battle of Aleppo: The History of the Ongoing Siege at the Center of the Syrian Civil War looks at the Syrian civil war's most famous battle, and the way it has dominated the world's attention. Along with pictures of important people, places, and events, you will learn about the siege of Aleppo like never before.
