Bu derleme kitap öncelikle Türkiye ve İran’ın tarihsel süreç içerisinde devlet, siyaset, hukuk, toplum, ekonomi, kültür ve din olgularının geçirmiş oldukları değişim ve dönüşümünü anlamayı deneyen çalışmaların bir araya getirilmesi ile vücut buldu. Bu süreçte Türkiye ve İran modernleşme deneyimi karşılaştırmalı bir perspektifle incelenmeye çalışılmıştır. İran, her ne kadar kadim bir medeniyetin modern çağda bir varisi ise de dünya ve komşusu olan ülkeler için önemli stratejik düşüncelerin geliştirildiği bir havzadır. Jeopolitik konuma sahip olan İran, ülkemiz açısından da tarihi ve kültürel bir ortak yaşanmışlığa sahiptir. Bölgede Türkiye gibi önemli politik ve kültürel bir rol üstlenen İran; birçok akademik çalışmanın konusu olmuştur. Her çalışmanın kendisine ait bir özgünlüğü olduğu düşüncesi üzerinden yola çıkarak bu çalışmanın da özgün tarafının olduğunu söylemek mümkündür. Çalışma İran’ın geçmiş ve günümüz tarihini, siyasetini, yaşam tarzını, dini anlayışını, ekonomisini ve hukuksal yapısını kapsayıcı içerikte hazırlandı. Bu çalışma İran ile ilgili tek çalışma olmamakla beraber çalışmanın bu nevi çalışmalara fayda sağlayacağı düşünülmektedir. İran’ı bir bütün olarak anlamaya çalışan bu kitap çalışmaya İranlı akademisyenlerin de katkı sağlaması ile daha özgün bir hale gelmiştir. In order to understand Iran's religious revolution of 1978-1979, it is important to look closely at an earlier revolution in the country, the constitutional revolution of 1905-1909. The most thorough and comprehensive history of the revolution to date, Bayat's book examines the uneasy alliance of clerical, bureaucratic, landowning, and mercantile elements that won the support of the masses for a more democratic government, especially the clerical dissidents that gave the revolution an aura of religious legitimacy.
