This book is about a small city state's social experiment with globalization. It examines how Singapore conducts its globalization experiment through the state apparatus of schooling and education policy. The author argues that Singapore engages with globalization by anticipating the «problem space» of globalization with calculated actions and experimentation, termed «tactics» and «tactical globalization» in the book. Central to the book is an examination and analysis of the «Thinking Schools, Learning Nation» education policy and reform. While Tactical Globalization contributes to the sociology of globalization by foregrounding new narratives on globalization that are emerging, it also takes a contextual and innovative approach to education policy analysis, which includes a speech-turned-policy document and a nationally televised segment of a documentary called Learning Journeys.

Geopolitics Of Globalization written by Romanovski Zephirin and has been published by Covenant Books, Inc. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-10-24 with Political Science categories.

The book shows that from the last two decades of the twentieth century and the end of the Cold War in 1991, a shift occurred in inter-American geopolitics as the United States emerged as the dominant global structural power. The post-Cold War international relations and new geopolitics are predominantly driven by geoeconomic rationales and outclass the old Cold War geopolitics overwhelmingly dominated by state politics and security strategies. The post-Cold War geopolitics is largely tied to globalization as integrated flows laying out various interrelated social, economic, political, and geographical networks in the Americas. As a result, the book states that the geopolitics of globalization sparks a geo-sociology and politics of scales, shaping political geography and internal-external politics and policies through the causes and effects of free trade areas, transnational migrations, human settlement patterns, ethnocultural, and demographic changes, city growth, and urban governance challenges. As well as discussing the issues of migration and cities, the book merges territoriality, geopolitics, and globalization in the broader existing theoretical literature and analyzes the implications for the research community at large. As such, it appeals to students, academics, policy makers, journalists, activists, and globalists looking for fresh thinking in the interplay of globalization and geopolitics in an era of global migration in global cities.

This volume provides a multi-faceted and critical analysis of the Singapore curriculum in relation to globalization. First, it details reform initiatives established by the Singapore government to meet the challenges posed by globalization. Next, Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum presents how these reforms have been translated into programs, school subjects and operational frameworks and then examines, in turn, how well these have been implemented in schools and classrooms across the country. Through this examination, the book reveals how the initiatives, together with their curricular translation and classroom enactment, reflect on the one hand global features and tendencies and, on the other, distinct national traditions, concerns and practices. It brings to light a set of issues, problems and challenges that not only concern policymakers, educators and reformers in Singapore but also those in other countries as well. Written by curriculum scholars, policy analysts, researchers and teacher educators, Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum offers an up-to-date reference for postgraduate students, scholars and researchers in the areas of curriculum and instruction, comparative education, educational sociology, educational policy and leadership in Singapore, the Asia Pacific region and beyond. It also offers a vital contribution to the story of modern education around the globe: providing international students, scholars and researchers valuable insights into curriculum and curriculum reform for the 21st century.

Global Cities written by Greg Clark and has been published by Brookings Institution Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-11-29 with Political Science categories.

Why have some cities become great global urban centers, and what cities will be future leaders? From Athens and Rome in ancient times to New York and Singapore today, a handful of cities have stood out as centers of global economic, military, or political power. In the twenty-first century, the number of truly global cities is greater than ever before, reflecting the globalization of both economic and political power. In Global Cities: A Short History, Greg Clark, an internationally renowned British urbanist, examines the enduring forces—such as trade, migration, war, and technology—that have enabled some cities to emerge from the pack into global leadership. Much more than a historical review, Clark’s book looks to the future, examining the trends that are transforming cities around the world as well as the new challenges all global cities, increasingly, will face. Which cities will be the global leaders of tomorrow? What are the common issues and opportunities they will face? What kinds of leadership can make these cities competitive and resilient? Clark offers answers to these and similar questions in a book that will be of interest to anyone who lives in or is affected by the world’s great urban areas.
