La obra es el resultado de varios años de investigación sobre la didáctica de la traducción. En la primera parte presentamos una propuesta metodológica para la enseñanza de la traducción a nivel universitario. En la segunda, incluimos una serie de tareas de traducción y de materiales y fichas para la realización práctica de las tareas, divididos en cuatro apartados dedicados respectivamente a la introducción a la tarea del traductor y a las tareas de traducción turística, periodística y literaria. En el ámbito de cada apartado, las tareas se clasifican por géneros textuales y, dentro de estos, se presentan de forma gradual según el esquema de programación contenido en nuestra propuesta metodológica: Tareas de concienciación, de introducción, finales y derivadas. Presentamos cada tarea a través de una ficha en que se anota el nivel correspondiente del Marco Común Europeo de Referencia (MCER), el tiempo que requiere la actividad, los materiales necesarios, la descripción de la actividad, y, en su caso, algunas propuestas para la fase de autocorrección. Las tareas se han elaborado para la enseñanza de la traducción, pero se pueden utilizar también en el ámbito de cursos de Español como Lengua Extranjera y en los cursos de Lengua y Traducción

From 2nd to 5th October 2012 an International Congress on Science and Technology for the conservation of Cultural Heritage was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, organized by the Universidade of Santiago de Compostela on behalf of TechnoHeritage Network. The congress was attended by some 160 participants from 10 countries, which presented a total of 145 contributions among plenary lectures, oral, and poster communications. The congress was dedicated to eight topics, namely (1) Environmental assessment and monitoring (pollution, climate change, natural events, etc.) of Cultural Heritage; (2) Agents and mechanisms of deterioration of Cultural Heritage (physical, chemical, biological), including deterioration of modern materials used in Contemporary Art and information storage; (3) Development of new instruments, non invasive technologies and innovative solutions for analysis, protection and conservation of Cultural Heritage; (4) New products and materials for conservation and maintenance of Cultural Heritage; (5) Preservation of industrial and rural heritage from the 19th and 20th centuries; (6) Security technologies, Remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems for protection and management of Cultural Heritage; (7) Significance and social value of Cultural Heritage; and (8) Policies for conservation of Cultural Heritage. This volume publishes a total of ninety-three contributions which reflect some of the most recent responses to the challenge of cultural assets conservation.

Walter Lippmann wrote his "Public Opinion" at a time when something like the 'mass media' was coming into existence. Prior to the age of electronic communication, the only mechanism for reaching large numbers of individuals was the newspapers. In World War I, he saw how opportunistic nations used the newspapers to serve their often nefarious aims. Lippmann, however, believed that in the hands of super-intelligent, disinterested, omni-benevelont 'experts, ' the 'mass media' could bring about world peace. The school system, the advent of radio, and of course, the television, were arriving or coming along shortly. Each allowed a small group of people the ability to manage a much larger group, inspiring optimism among liberals and progressives that with the right forumula, the horrors seen in World War I would never occur again. Lippmann wrote "Public Opinion" in 1922, shortly after World War I. In 1924, a certain Adolf Hitler would be spending time in jail. If this merited any mention in any newspaper, it is doubtful that no expert paid it any mind. 1939 was, after all, a long way off.
