In Take a Sad Song: The Emotional Currency of "Hey Jude," James Campion dives deeply into the song's origins, recording, visual presentation, impact, and eventual influence, while also discovering what makes "Hey Jude" a classic musical expression of personal comfort and societal unity conceived by a master songwriter, Paul McCartney. Within its melodic brilliance and lyrical touchstones of empathy and nostalgia resides McCartney's personal and professional relationship with his childhood friend and songwriting partner, John Lennon, and their simultaneous pursuit of the women who would complete them. There are also clues to the growing turmoil within the Beatles and their splintering generation scarred by war, assassination, and virulent protest. Campion's journey into the song includes the insights of academic experts and professors in the field of musicology, sociology, philosophy, psychology, and history. Campion also reveals commentary from noted Beatles authors, biographers, music historians, and journalists and, finally, a peek into the craft of songwriting from a host of talented composers across several generations. Take a Sad Song is a tribute to how a song can define, inspire, and affect us in ways we do not always fully comprehend, as well as a celebration of a truly amazing track in the Beatles canon that reveals one band's genius and underscores its lasting voice in our cultural and musical landscape.

A pilot study was conducted to determine if the songs evoked their intended emotions. The pilot study included 6 songs: two fast, major songs to induce happiness; two repetitive songs intended to be neutral; and two slow, minor songs to evoke sadness. One song for each condition was retained for the primary study. All participants listened to all three songs in a counterbalanced order and completed a measure of absorption in a counterbalanced order.

The Beatles and the Beatlesque address a paradox emanating from The Beatles’ music through a cross-disciplinary hybrid of reflections, drawing from both, musical practice itself and academic research. Indeed, despite their extreme stylistic variety, The Beatles’ songs seem to always bear a distinctive identity that emerges even more in similar works by other artists, whether they are merely inspired, derivative or explicitly paying homage. The authors, a musicologist and music producer, emphasize the importance of record production in The Beatles' music in a way that does justice not only to the final artifacts (the released songs) but also to the creative process itself (i.e., the songs "in the making"). Through an investigation into the work of George Martin and his team, as well as The Beatles themselves, this text sheds light on the role of the studio in shaping the group's eclectic but unique sound. The chapters address what makes a song “Beatlesque”, to what extent production choices are responsible for developing a style, production being understood not as a mere set of technicalities, but also in a more conceptual way, as well as the aesthetics, semiotics and philosophy that animated studio activity. The outcome is a book that will appeal to both students and researchers, as well as, of course, musicophiles of all kinds.

An inspiring biography of a young man of integrity who achieved many things and excelled at life because of his love for Christ and humanity An excellent book to inspire the athlete in your family Great reading for all ages, but especially teens "We had team. We had unity. We had Brandon Burlsworth. He had a total commitment to be the best?" Houston Nutt, Head Football Coach at University Of Arkansas. Brandon Burlsworth could have been just another statistic of a young man who tragically lost his life in a 1999 car crash, just one of the many who was here and now is gone, only to be remembered by family and close friends. But Brandon Burlsworth is remembered by thousands as a Christian who lived as close to the mark as possible while excelling academically (Academic All-American), (All SEC, All-American guard for the Arkansas Razorbacks, selected in the draft to play for the Indianapolis Colts). Few American entertainers have had the explosive impact, wide-ranging appeal, and continuing popularity of country music star Hank Williams. Such Williams standards as "Your Cheatin' Heart," "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry," "Jambalaya," and "I Saw the Light" have all entered the pantheon of great American song. Roger Williams recounts the story of Hank's rise from impoverished Southern roots, his coming of age during and after World War II, his meteoric climb to national acclaim and star status on the Grand Ole Opry, his chronic bouts with alcoholism and the alienation it created in those he loved and sang for, and finally his tragic death at twenty-nine and subsequent emergence as a folk hero. The book also features a thorough discography compiled by Bob Pinson of the Country Music Foundation.

Its better to light a candle than to curse the darkness, the wise old saying had been on my mind over the years. So finally, I lit the candle by writing my biography. The book tells all about a boy born to a middle-class rural family in the British colonial Ceylon. Living in an era of strict cultural taboos and ancient practices his young life was utterly intricate. Torn from the bosom of his family, he departs from his cozy village-home to a faraway school to suffer under sadistic teachers. In a miserable boardinghouse he struggles with nasty bullyboys and battles along with constant homesickness. The family tragedies worsen his misery drowning him in grief and, hence, confusion. Later recovering and developing a great vision of life, takes him out of misery to a successful university career. To begin a new twist of fate, he leaves his motherland to spend a quiet family life in New Zealand. Then his family disappointments take him across the Tasman to Australia. Living here for over a few decades he becomes a helpless victim of numerous adverse life events forcing him to a solitary single life. Now he finds his way to survive the loneliness through his profound determination engaged in generosity. Later when he expedites a romance overseas, the surrounding enemies ruin it resulting in the tragic loss of his great lover, leaving him in deep sorrow. In dismay, with a failed mission overseas, and now aimless, he returns to Australia. Grieving silently and living a low profile, suddenly his health deteriorates leaving a little ray of hope of life. Eventually, he recovers slowly and agonizingly bringing his life back to solitude again. This is a vivid story written true to his memories in sequel and full of haunting childhood, fomenting adolescence, ghosts of numerous failures and finding ways to survive the great losses, disappointments and loneliness through his determination. Also, interestingly the writer relates his times to important events took place in the outer world during these periods; a kind of a historical account. This is a dramatic life journey of a mans own purpose and meaning of battling along. So, those readers who seek a variety would find this book full of interesting episodes, cultural background and differences in the light of the Westerners eyes. Finally, its a unique presentation and not the norm in traditional book stores.
