Throughout the centuries, there has been controversy as to whether Christians should defend themselves or not for some time. This has been unfortunate due to the lack of a careful study of the life and message of Jesus Christ. Some have mixed up the teachings and actions of Ghandi and other religious leaders with those of Christ. Theu do this by reimagining the Lord Jesus Christ as a sort of a mild-mannered, hippy flower child who wouldn't harm a flea. Misusing Jesus' command to "turn the other cheek," they have turned some Christians into pacifists which allows unbelievers to take advantage of them on many fronts. This is absurd! The Lord was continually defending Himself both verbally and physically. Though He had allowed them to arrest Him to die for His own, He let the authorities know in no uncertain terms that He was in complete control. In this book, we will carefully study His use of self-defense analogies and His clear instructions to His disciples in the upper room at their Last Supper together that self-defense would be warranted at times. His actions during His ministry, in the garden at His arrest, His warning of His certain return in power in vengeance to both the Jewish and Roman authorities will demonstrate that Jesus believed and practiced self-defense. We will discover that "turning the other cheek" had nothing to do with self-defense and the greatest way to love our neighbors and enemies is to prevent one from harming the other through self-defense.

Christianity In The Greco Roman World written by Moyer V. Hubbard and has been published by Baker Academic this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-01-01 with Religion categories.

Background becomes foreground in Moyer Hubbard's creative introduction to the social and historical setting for the letters of the Apostle Paul to churches in Asia Minor and Europe. Hubbard begins each major section with a brief narrative featuring a fictional character in one of the great cities of that era. Then he elaborates on various aspects of the cultural setting related to each particular vignette, discussing the implications of those venues for understanding Paul's letters and applying their message to our lives today. Addressing a wide array of cultural and traditional issues, Hubbard discusses: • religion and superstition • education, philosophy, and oratory • urban society • households and family life in the Greco-Roman world This work is based on the premise that the better one understands the historical and social context in which the New Testament (and Paul's letters) was written, the better one will understand the writings of the New Testament themselves. Passages become clearer, metaphors deciphered, and images sharpened. Teachers, students, and laypeople alike will appreciate Hubbard's unique, illuminating, and well-researched approach to the world of the early church.

A sweeping history of the often-violent conflict between Islam and the West, shedding a revealing light on current hostilities The West and Islam -- the sword and scimitar -- have clashed since the mid-seventh century, when, according to Muslim tradition, the Roman emperor rejected Prophet Muhammad's order to abandon Christianity and convert to Islam, unleashing a centuries-long jihad on Christendom. Sword and Scimitar chronicles the decisive battles that arose from this ages-old Islamic jihad, beginning with the first major Islamic attack on Christian land in 636, through the Muslim occupation of nearly three-quarters of Christendom which prompted the Crusades, followed by renewed Muslim conquests by Turks and Tatars, to the European colonization of the Muslim world in the 1800s, when Islam largely went on the retreat -- until its reemergence in recent times. Using original sources in Arabic and Greek, preeminent historian Raymond Ibrahim describes each battle in vivid detail and explains how these wars and the larger historical currents of the age reflect the cultural fault lines between Islam and the West. The majority of these landmark battles -- including the battles of Yarmuk, Tours, Manzikert, the sieges at Constantinople and Vienna, and the crusades in Syria and Spain--are now forgotten or considered inconsequential. Yet today, as the West faces a resurgence of this enduring Islamic jihad, Sword and Scimitar provides the needed historical context to understand the current relationship between the West and the Islamic world -- and why the Islamic State is merely the latest chapter of an old history.

Sharpen Your Sword written by Robert L. Carroll and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-06-07 with Religion categories.

The Word of God teaches us to put on the whole armor of God, which is our defense against the attacks of our Enemies, who threatens our spiritual lives on a daily basis. Among our impenetrable amour is the sword, which is symbolic of the Word of God. But in order for us to take up and wield our sword in a manner that honors the severity of the battle, we must first understand the fundamentals of Scripture. After becoming a believer at the age of thirty-eight, Robert L. Carroll became filled with the need to leave what he has learned of the Word's truth for those around him once he's joined the Father in Heaven. His work, Sharpen Your Sword, was written with both the new and seasoned believer in mind. As a newborn baby knows nothing of the world immediately, Carroll begins this journey of faith with readers as if they are just being born into truth of God's Word. Carroll walks readers through the requirements of being a believer of the Word of God. He does so by establishing the validity of the Scriptures, who we are as a people and how we got here, Who God is, our relationship with Him, and many other key topics relevant to the Christian walk. Of the many gospels being preached worldwide, only one is true, and it is revealed in the Word of God, the message of Jesus Christ as read in Scripture. New and old believers alike are being deceived by false preaching, leading many to wrongly believe that they have been saved. However, the only true path to salvation is laid out in the Word, and Carroll hopes to help all who desire it to correct their course.

What do Adam and Jesus have in common? What do Eve and Mary have in common? More than you think! With full color illustrations, Maura Roan McKeegan has brought to life biblical typology for children. Taking familiar biblical stories from the Old and New Testaments and placing them side by side, children can see biblical typology jump off the page. Biblical typology is when a person or an event in the Old Testament foreshadows a person or an event in the New Testament. The Bible is full of these fascinating “types.” Children can now discover similarities of types without any difficulty, and easily understand at an early age what St. Augustine meant when he said that the New Testament lies hidden in the Old and the Old Testament is revealed in the New. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

The quintessential image of the hero for GOD, the Knight, half warrior and half saint, stands for everything good, strong, and honorable in the human spirit. This book contains twenty-five years of research on true knighthood: the refined and essential virtues, elements, techniques and strategies to wage successful war against Evil. Taken from the lives, stories, and advice of warriors, saints, monks, priests, and pious people, these strategies show specifically and very concretely how to be a knight and hero. The book explains - How does a knight use purity to make himself stronger in physical, as well as mental and spiritual combat? - How does a knight find a state of Grace? - How does a knight develop his moral courage and his ability to sacrifice? - Why meekness and humility is the root of true strength, - How great courage is directly derived from fear of GOD, - How sacrifice and asceticism can be used to defeat demons, - How Faith can be developed and improved. - The techniques of Sir Ramon Lull, Rodrigo De Bivar, Charles Martel, Sir Miguel Cervantes, and saints such as Ignatius, Louis, Francis, Augustine, Aquinas and many more Every question is answered. Only one thing remains. May GOD grant us HIS Grace.
