A Tale of Two Seasons provides a fan's eye view of two of the most momentous seasons in Hearts' 140-year history, covering unthinkable calamity and ultimate salvation. Perilously close to extinction after their Lithuanian owners became insolvent, the book relives Heart of Midlothian's year in administration, starting out on minus 15 points with a team composed of under-20s and a few seasoned pros on half-wages. First-hand, game-by-game experience of the season traces media perception of events on and off the pitch, and the attitudes of opposing supporters. After the bittersweet denouement of relegation comes the club's return from the brink as fans' group the Foundation of Hearts and businesswoman Ann Budge pave the way for fan ownership. And so to the following season's promotion campaign, the newly remodelled club finding itself locked in a three-way promotion battle with Rangers and Hibernian, breaking records along the way to winning the title.

Two Seasons written by David Wilson (Police officer) and has been published by Rosedog Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07 with Maine categories.

Two Seasons By: David Wilson Have you ever sat around a campfire and overheard someone tell a story, or had a family member tell a story and as you listened you thought to yourself, did that really happen? Two Seasons is about stories that have been handed down, with maybe a bit of exaggeration added to them as any tall tales traditionally have. Set in a rural northern Maine community, you may just recognize the town as a place you've visited before or one of its residents as someone you've known. Wilomena Farnsworth-Miller, otherwise affectionately known as Ma, is the town's matriarch. She's ornery, opinionated, and at no time politically correct, but the residents adore her (well, mostly), and wouldn't have her to be any other way. Ma owns and operates the local diner where the townsfolk spend a majority of their time enjoying a cup of coffee along with a home-cooked meal, and telling tales of their own. Two Seasons contains amusing adventures had by Ma and the residents of East Puddleduck, many based on real people and actual events. About the Author David Wilson is a native Mainer, both living and working in the central and northern regions of the pine tree state. Over the years, he's been on many adventures with friends and family, most taking place in the northern Maine woods. Along the way he's met many unique characters, each with amusing stories to tell which have been incorporated into the pages of this book, and have been the inspiration for this, his second novel.

Two Seasons written by J.D. Engle and has been published by Gatekeeper Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-07-25 with Fiction categories.

A moving tribute to Virginia Woolf's classic novel To the Lighthouse, J.D. Engle’s Two Seasons continues the story of the intriguing artist Lily Briscoe, while standing on its own as a warmly involving work of fiction. In the autumn five years after the 1927 novel's triumphant end, the now married Lily Ramsay brings family and friends together at what is essentially a farewell dinner for her terminally ill husband. Five years later, spring finds us at the Ramsay Hebrides house of the earlier novel for the wedding of daughter Rose. Celebrated as a successful artist, yet reserved and only comfortable on the margins of social settings, Lily deals with the tensions ignited by her calmer but still difficult husband and the lingering resentments of his children. True to Woolf's theme of a senseless world temporarily leant meaningful order by artistic creation and warm human relations, J.D. Engle’s Two Seasons is the quietly riveting story of a remarkable family and of a strong female character struggling against her nature to ally these essential forces. Book Review 1: “Compelling and quite moving . . . a work of virtuosity and originality” -- Peter Dimock, novelist (George Anderson: Notes for a Love Song in Imperial Time, Daybook from Sheep Meadow: The Notebooks of Tallis Martinson, etc.) Book Review 2: ‘’A beautifully written book . . . . At a time when failing to register how so much of what we do in the present will produce dire consequences in the future, Two Seasons calls us, finally and simply, to pay closer attention—to how we talk and write and tell stories, to the dense meanings of every moment, to the mystery and vastness of other people’s inner lives, to the ways that worlds end, and to the ways they nonetheless still live on.” -- Lee Zimmerman, Editor, Twentieth Century Literature; Professor, Hofstra University

Amazing Tales from the 2004 Boston Red Sox Dugout is a different kind of look back at the incredible championship season—through the eyes of the players involved. It is packed full of anecdotes, quotes, and perspectives from each member of the team, presented in the context of their on-field heroics. The book includes intimate snapshots of particularly relevant moments—rare glimpses behind the scenes—in order bring you back to the moment. This was a group of bona fide characters who showed great character in facing every challenge put before them—including overcoming a three games to none deficit in the ALCS against their archrivals. The season had more than its share of the humorous, the poignant, and the downright weird. Thanks to an unconventional and irreverent—but effective—approach to the game, the underdog 2004 Red Sox captured the imagination of New England and the entire nation. In their quixotic quest, they defied an ancient curse and slew the hated Yankees en route to the October Classic and a meeting with the St. Louis Cardinals. Amazing Tales from the 2004 Boston Red Sox Dugout is a personal and informal look at the first Red Sox team to win a World Series championship in 86 frustrating years. Like the team itself, it is quirky; but also like the team, it is a winner.
