Ideal for fans of the Mark of a Lion series and Bill Parcells Pro football chronicle of the New York Jets Covers the successes and losses of the Jets For over 55 seasons, the New York Jets have not enjoyed large doses of pride and glory. Yes, Joe Namath led them to a stunning Super Bowl III upset victory in 1968. But since then, the Jets have gone back and forth between maddening and entertaining, bumbling and embarrassing, and constantly teasing their fierce fan base. At this point, rather sadistically, the rollercoaster of rooting for the Jets has become a way of life. In Tales from the New York Jets Sideline, author Mark Cannizzaro brings his readers on a journey. Readers and author travel through Cannizzaro’s eyes and the eyes of the subjects he has covered, throughout the maze of musings, controversial coincidences, and the occasional brilliance that the Jets have displayed during the years the author has followed the franchise. This includes their consecutive AFC Championship Game losses in 2009 and 2010 and the following struggles, adding to the former angst and teases Jets fans have felt since Joe Willie’s memorable triumph. Skyhorse Publishing, as well as our Sports Publishing imprint, are proud to publish a broad range of books for readers interested in sports—books about baseball, pro football, college football, pro and college basketball, hockey, or soccer, we have a book about your sport or your team. The New York Jets have not basked in an abundance of pride and glory. Sure, they were led to the promised land by Joe Namath with the stunning Super Bowl VII upset victory that capped the magical 1969 season. Since then, however, the Jets have careened through life alternating between bumbling and embarrassing, maddening and entertaining, while all along the way teasing their ardent fan base so tantalizingly that, rather sadistically, it has become a way of life. In Tales from the Jets Sideline, author Mark Cannizzaro takes readers on a journey, through his eyes and the eyes of the subjects he has covered, across the maze of musings, controversial happenstances, and occasional brilliance the Jets have displayed during the years he has followed the franchise. Fans will be taken through some of the crazy Bruce Coslet years that featured a series of extreme highs and lows. Fans will also recall Coslet's successor, Pete Carroll, who lasted only a year after the team's late owner, Leon Hess, had a revelation by the name of Rich Kotite while vacationing in the islands. Jets fans will never forget Kotite, but for all of the wrong reasons. The Jets saw some light after the colossal failed experiment that was Kotite, and that light was Bill Parcells and his incredible band of assistant coaches who came within 30 minutes in Denver of bringing the Jets back to where Namath had brought them some 30 years earlier. The Parcells era, however, proved to be as much of a tease as anything in Jets history, because he opted not to finish the job, leaving coaching and soon after leaving the Jets in a messy divorce. Enter Herman Edwards, the energetic fireball of a head coach who is currently trying tomake Jets fans forget about all of the previous angst and tantalizing teases they have endured since Joe Willie's memorable triumph.

A de facto American national holiday and phenomenon, the Super Bowl claims a spot as one of the most significant sporting events in the world and the most widely celebrated, feasted and feasting event of the year— with $14+ billion at stake, commercials costing $7 million for a 30-second spot, record-setting broadcast ratings, and 113+ million viewers. More avocados (105 million pounds) are consumed, and more beer is drunk (325 million gallons) on the single day of Superbowl Sunday. But there is much more at play than partying at our annual sports extravaganza, as this scholarly researched yet readable volume demonstrates: Here you will read a historical perspective that includes discussions of the meta-event’s economics (stakeholders, host cities, advertising, gambling, and media), fandom, ratings, halftime entertainment, the roles of mythic spectacle and religion, football’s sexist, militaristic language, gender issues like cheerleaders and sex trafficking, the Puppy Bowl, medical concerns like concussions and violence, tailgating and foodie ideas—all along with tidbits about your favorite team(s) and player(s). Touchdown!

From Darkness To Dynasty written by Jerry Thornton and has been published by Triumph Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-12-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Long before the Patriots took the 21st century by storm and became the most dominant team in NFL history, pro football was something entirely different in New England, something comically atrocious and riddled with heartbreak. Before those juggernaut years of Bill Belichick, Tom Brady, and sold-out crowds at Gillette Stadium came a hapless franchise that managed only a single playoff victory in a quarter century and spent its entire first decade of existence just trying to establish a permanent home field (and even when they did, none of the toilets worked). In From Darkness to Dynasty, bestselling author Jerry Thornton irreverently chronicles those easily glossed-over, downtrodden decades--years when the team claimed more headlines for lawsuits, arrests, power struggles, drug problems, and inept, bizarre, behavior from players, coaches, and owners than for anything they accomplished on the field. Relive the behind-the-scenes dysfunction, the turmoil of prolonged irrelevance, and the improbable way the Patriots finally ascended to greatness. By turns hilarious and eye-opening, this is an essential history for fans and disparagers alike, and a pointed reminder that the best stories of triumph start with humble beginnings.

Legends Of Syracuse Basketball written by Mike Waters and has been published by Sports Publishing LLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Education categories.

A list of legends is significant not only for who makes the list, but who gets left off of it. If there are no obvious omissions, then the list of candidates was probably less than legendary in the first place. Not so in the case of the Syracuse University Orangemen. Calling roll on Syracuse's all-time basketball greats can take up the greater part of a day. The school produced its first All-American, Lewis Castle, in 1912. Most recently, Carmelo Anthony, one of the best freshmen to ever play college basketball, led the 2003 Orangemen to the school's first NCAA championship. In between there were legends such as the incomparable Dave Bing, Roosevelt Bouie, and Louis Orr, who together formed the Louie and Bouie Show, along with names like Derrick Coleman, Sherman Douglas, Lawrence Moten, and John Wallace. Legends of Syracuse Basketball features 24 players, one coach, and one special team. Within the book's pages are stories straight from the legends' teammates, their coaches, and the legends themselves. Of the players mentioned, 17 played in the NBA. More telling of the greatness of the Syracuse University basketball program is the fact that 10 Orangemen who played in the NBA did not make this list of legends. The same is true of record holders, All-Americans, and more fan favorites than are possible to count.
