Jesus preached his gospel of the kingdom of God -only in parables - to multitudes of peasants in Galilee. Those illiterate peasants patiently listened and evidently understood Jesus' parables; but although the Gospels tell us what Jesus said, they do not open the meaning of his parables. So for two millennia the meaning in Jesus' parables and of his gospel of the kingdom of God has remained obscure and uncertain. If illiterate peasants in Gallilee could understand Jesus' parables, why can't we? What did Jesus mean when "he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear"? (Luke 8:8) How can we get "ears to hear"? In these Tales you will discover the key that opens the meaning in Jesus' parables - and his gospel. What if real life events are offered in contrast to the miracles described in the Gospels? Then how could the virgin Mary have a baby? How could Jesus be resurrected? These Tales provide plausible answers created by inference from the text of the Gospels.

In the 1920s, Robert Athlyi Rogers founded the Afro-Athlican Constructive Gaathly religion in the West Indies. He wrote The Holy Piby as a guiding text, seeing Ethiopians - in the classical meaning of all Africans - as God's chosen people, and he preached self-determination and self-reliance. The Holy Piby is a major source of influence to the Rastafarian faith, which holds Haile Selassie I as Christ, and Marcus Garvey as his prophet. The Holy Piby consists of four books, and the seventh chapter of the second book identifies Marcus Garvey as one of three apostles of God. Original copies are extremely rare, and it is not even listed in the Library of Congress. The text was banned in Jamaica and many other Caribbean Islands until the late 1920s.

2020 Reprint of 1926 Editions. Full facsimile of the original editions and not reproduced with Optical Recognition software. This edition includes two titles published into one bound volume. Rutherford Hayes Platt, in the preface to his 1963 reprint of this work, states: "First issued in 1926, this is the most popular collection of apocryphal and pseudepigraphal literature ever published." The translations were first published, under this title, by an unknown editor in The Lost Books of the Bible Cleveland 1926, but the translations had previously been published many times. The book is, essentially, a combined reprint of earlier works. The first half, Lost Books of the Bible, covers the New Testament. The second half of the book, The Forgotten Books of Eden, includes a translation originally published in 1882 of the "First and Second Books of Adam and Eve", translated first from ancient Ethiopic to German and then into English by Solomon Caesar Malan, and a number of items of Old Testament pseudepigrapha, such as reprinted in the second volume of R.H. Charles's Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha of the Old Testament (Oxford, 1913).

The Gospels in their cultural and political setting - Warren Carter leads the beginning student in an exploration of the New Testament Gospels as distinct tales told about Jesus, with different purposes for different circumstances. He takes up the "tale" told by each Gospel and presents a likely reconstruction of its setting, giving particular attention to often overlooked aspects of the Roman imperial setting. A concluding chapter addresses how the Gospels inform and shape our understanding of Jesus of Nazareth. Maps, images, sidebars, and a glossary add value to this student-friendly text. Book jacket.

This book helps us resolve some of the mysteries and contradictions that evolved during the Bible's pre-written legacy and that persist in the Great Book today. Most biblical scholars acknowledge that both the Old and New Testaments were orally transmitted for decades before appearing in written form. With great reverence for the Bible, Dundes offers a new and exciting way to understand its variant texts. He uses the analytical framework of folklore to unearth and contrast the multiple versions of nearly every major biblical event, including the creation of woman, the flood, the ten commandments (there were once as many as eleven or twelve), the names of the twelve tribes, the naming of the disciples, the Sermon on the Mount, the Lord's Prayer, and the words inscribed on the Cross, among many others.
