Margaret Marsh offers us a glimpse into the secret world of the cruise ship with her stories of life on board as a medical officer’s wife. Life in close proximity to the passengers and crew is revealed with all its ups and downs in these humorous tales In Tales of a Cruise Ship, Margaret takes us to parts of a cruise ship never normally seen by passengers, giving us a unique insight into the cruising life. Taken from Margaret’s onboard journals (kept while her husband was working as a medical officer) the book introduces us to the characters who live, work and holiday aboard. Margaret goes behind the doors marked Crew Only to show us a whole different cruising life; from the stewards and stewardesses who make the beds, to the chefs and waiters who cook and serve the meals, to the engine room boys who keep the ship moving. Elsewhere we greet the entertainment staff as they plan events to keep everyone amused and visit the bridge to meet the captain and officers who take the ship to its next destination. Meanwhile Margaret’s husband, the ‘Doc’, hovers somewhere in between the crew and passengers – his home on board is the medical centre where his patients are the officers, crew and passengers. As the Doc’s wife, Margaret was able to sit back and observe the onboard interactions. Tales of a Cruise Ship is part memoir, part travel book and should appeal to the many thousands of passengers who enjoy cruising holidays every year.

In 2000, Alexander Flint sailed on the Millennium World Cruise and left New York City aboard the Queen Elizabeth 2. After circumnavigating the globe, the ship returned to New York Harbor amidst rumors that twelve bodies were in the freezer awaiting pickup by various funeral directors. Although the details of the deaths were vague, it was said they died of natural causes. Gleaning what he could from gossip, rumor, and innuendo, Flint set about writing The Frozen Dozen. It was published in 2002 and four of the stories were produced on stage in several off-Broadway productions. Flint also spent two weeks aboard the Queen Elizabeth, a newer, more modern version of cruise ships, departing from Southampton, England, for a cruise of the Baltic Sea. He was inspired by the enchanting beauty of Stockholm, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Tallinn, Kiel, and St. Petersburgand also by the wide array of characters he encountered. The stories born from these experiences are witty, entertaining, and infused with rich character, proving that Alexander Flint is indeed a master of the short story genre.

Cruise Quarters - A novel About Casinos and Cruise Ships was chosen Tripatini.com 'Read of the Week'. The Review Girl blog raves, "Cruise Quarters is an amazing travel novel which is as much about romance as it is about travel (the novel is based on their real-life love story)." The # 1 cruise ship and casino novel is a fun, fast paced tale of working in the casino aboard a Regal Cruises cruise-ship. It is based on a true story and was written by authors who have over a decade of experience working on luxury cruise ships. The crew of the Regal Star resemble a mini United Nations, hiring people from all over the world. But unlike the UN, Regal Cruise's employees present a united front above decks as they attend to their passenger's every needs. Sarah Seldon is a croupier on the luxury liner. After many unhappy endings, and burnt out on shipboard romance, she is determined to forget about men and concentrate on becoming a casino manager. On land women face a dearth of GOOD men but on a ship giving up men would take willpower. The mostly male crew exist to serve her every need. Handsome Italian waiters bring her food, the Filipino steward cleans her room, English officers play poker with her and the Welsh plumber fixes her sink. She leads a cushy life, sleeping 'til noon, eating gourmet food, and the topper - she gets to wake up in beautiful new place everyday. All because she works in a casino, a place so bad it has SIN in the middle. Book a cruise and travel with Sarah and the crew as they work, play, feast, and fall in and out of love, all while the ship sails around the globe, stopping at exotic ports of call. Along the way, from Venice to Barcelona sight-see in the Med, shop in St. Martin, take an eco-cruise down the Amazon, and feast in Glasgow. Let the crew tell you their own stories as they sit in the hallway in the wee hours of the morning. While the ship travels to new destinations, tired and tipsy they share tales of love and betrayal. Excerpt from Chapter One: When people sat down at Sarah Seldon's blackjack game, they always wanted to talk about The Book. “Should I double down? Should I hit? Dealer, I know you're a gambler; you could let me win if you wanted to. What does the book say?” She had never read this book, this mythical Bible for gamblers. The truth is there are 2256 books, each teaching its own foolproof winning system. But Sarah had been in the casino business long enough to think with a gambler's mind. Gamblers knew they could follow all the rules of basic strategy, utilize money management and still lose if they weren't dealt the right cards. The allure and curse of gambling was that there were no sure things. In the end it all came down to luck; gamblers prayed that Lady Luck would show up and that she would stick around for awhile. On that particular day, Sarah perched on a chair to get a better view through her salt-stained porthole onto the dock, filled with people busying themselves with the activities necessary to supply a huge cruise ship. Port activities in Hong Kong demonstrated a model of modern efficiency. Even though the ship had been docked for under an hour, already the crew had begun to perform the necessary safety checks. At the same time operators steered forklifts, moving wooden pallets filled with provisions into the hold. Like a patient hooked up to life support, long, fat hoses attached to the side of the ship fed water and gas into tanks, providing nutrients for the upcoming voyage. Growing up Neil's biggest wish was to let others know his thoughts and his dreams. He had so many things that he wanted to share, but he just couldn't. He didn't have a way to express his thoughts. One day, his parents got Neil a talker. Neil was very excited that he would be able to express his thoughts and share his ideas with his family and friends. Since this is like learning a new language for Neil, his parents and sister helped him by modeling. Modeling means using the talker to say things while also using your voice. Modeling is fun! Neil's sister models while they play and read books together. Neil's mum models every day when she helps Neil get ready for school and in the evening when telling Neil a bedtime story. Neil's father models while going to the park with him on weekends. Soon everyone around Neil was modeling and helping him learn this new language. Neil picked up on the new language over time and started commenting when people around him were talking. Neil is very grateful for being able to say what he wants, when he wants and how he wants to say it. He has so many thoughts and ideas he wants to share.
