The SEALs had got an impromptu start and ran down the ridgeline towards the tent. They heard an enemy fighter fire off an entire AK-47 magazine in the direction of the SEALs, but it was completely ineffective. The SEALs dropped onto one knee and returned fire; one SEAL only managed to get one round off before his M4 jammed. Then a second SEALs M4 jammed, and the two SEALs worked frantically to clear the stoppage. The SEALs cleared their stoppages and then started to return fire. The first insurgent ran straight at them; he was red-dotted on his chest and all it took was a burst of fire for him to drop to the frozen ground. The next insurgent popped up moving right and only made it a couple of steps before he was swiftly dropped. A third occupant tried to escape via the back of the ridge and was soon picked off and sent tumbling down the mountain side with a bullet in his head. From the densely packed warren of walled compounds that doubled neatly as enemy bunkers, lush orchards, and high up in the rugged mountainous border area between Afghanistan and Pakistan. U.S. Navy SEALs have fought some deadly battles paying the ultimate sacrifice. Locked in bloody combat with a fierce and battle hardened enemy in a dangerous and harsh environment.

While this book is about the Korean War, it is not a history of the Korean War. A more than sufficient number of books already exist to serve that purpose. As with most my books, it is more about people, and the amazing things they accomplish, with the events only a historical background in which their acts can be understood. The invasion of South Korea by North Korea was the first military action of what would become known as the Cold War, the ideological struggle between Communism and Capitalism. The United States spent around $67 billion on the war that lasted 3 years and 1 month.According to the U.S. Department of Defense, 33,739 Americans deaths were "hostile" with another 2,835 deaths classified as Non-Hostile for a total of 36,574 "In-Theatre" deaths. Another 103,284 were Wounded in Action. As of February 2019, 7,667 American soldiers are still unaccounted for (Missing in Action) from the Korean War.

A nearly empty spit of sand, dotted with the neon lights of an age past, calling out for tourists that may never come - but certainly wouldn’t this time of year. The empty boulevards are filled only with the happier memories of a lifetime spent here with family and friends - memories from a lifetime ago. The empty mountain roads, forest paths, and wide valleys - memorized as well as the back of a hand. Control and domination of every nook and cranny, given not by right of choice as much as the right of birth - handed down from father to son for generations. Each taking up the mantle of Lord Protector. The Movement Universe has, thus far, been the stories of a few. But that universe, like our own, is full of other people – characters whose stories are interesting and unique. They may be heroes or rogues – but they deserve to be told. What follows may not be happy stories. They may not be stories of the best of someone. Whether these stories were written in the stars, the inevitability of an omniscient power; or the random happenstance of the chaos of the universe – in either event, the stories stand on their own.

The Civil War is the defining moment in our history. More than 620,000 Americans died in that conflict, a figure that far exceeds the number of dead in any other American war. Although military history occupies the popular imagination, battles and tactics do not exist apart from the larger context – the world inhabited by the people who lived during that unique time in our history. This is a rich sampling of Civil War stories – tales of courage and valor – culled from letters, diaries, newspapers, periodicals, battle reports and pamphlets, which feature some well known and not so well known people who faced danger and uncertainty and showed great courage throughout this difficult time in our nation’s history. Collected in this volume is the story of how Walt Whitman was drawn to the Civil War; the tale of George Armstrong Custer’s life-long friendship with a far less famous Confederate general; the drama of America’s greatest amphibious assault prior to World War II; the contrast between the post-war fate of Confederate Generals James Longstreet and Turner Ashby; the excitement of the Battle of Mobile Bay; the hardships faced by the new Confederate Post Office; the chronicle of a neurosurgeon’s pioneering techniques that were later used in World War I; the adventure of a Prussian nobleman who fought with JEB Stuart; and the mystery of how a copy of the Bill of Rights stolen during Sherman’s march to the sea was finally recovered by the FBI nearly one hundred and forty years after the Civil War. Here, in vivid detail and with a dramatic flair, are the voices of soldiers and sailors, friends and enemies, doctors, correspondents, generals and politicians, all told in a way that only history from the heart can tell. These tales convey the vitality, the humor, the courage and the valor of a people and their volatile era. These colorful stories offer a glimpse into the personalities, attitudes and events that at once enhance our understanding of the Civil War and shape our perspective today. Richly illustrated throughout, this volume offers insights into the mind and character of those who lived the experience of the Civil War.

History is filled with myth. Heroes and icons from our distant past are no longer remembered by people who actually experienced them. They are remembered by the stories passed down from generation to generation. After so many centuries have passed, it is often difficult to discern who was truly alive, and who lived only in the minds of the storytellers. Fictional beings are no less capable than real-life heroes of teaching society a lesson, or exemplifying what the reader believes is right and just, or downright evil. Whether or not the characters in a story were ever alive is a decision each reader will have to make on their own. Regardless of when or where the characters may have lived, each story in this collection will share with the reader some moral lesson that applies to the world today. Classic Legendary Hero Stories includes characters from a variety of places and time periods, including: Gilgamesh; Young David (Goliath's foe); Odysseus; Beowulf; El Cid; Richard Lionheart; Robin Hood; King Arthur; and Rama the Indian Prince.
