I began a career working with children as a substitute teacher in Germany in 1992 and continued to work for the schools in various school districts when we returned to the United States. I loved it so much. Being an encourager/mentor, working with children and seeing them learn became my passion. I want to thank Barbara Davis, a teacher, for her continuous persuasiveness to get me to come aboard to work in the schools. I love children, and I loved my job working with them. It was just amazing. After about six months in North Carolina, I decided to get back into the school system in 1995 because I love children, and I enjoyed working with children.

Does your preschool child with ADHD have poor self-esteem? “Don’t do that,” and “No,” negatively impacts his self-esteem. Parents of preschool children with ADHD travel a frustrating journey. They react instead of respond to their child’s misbehavior. Their child is reprimanded for behavior that he cannot control due to his ADHD, which increases his inappropriate behavior. Additionally, socially inappropriate behavior may occur as a result of being treated negatively. Parents should not be blamed, because they may not know how to manage their child’s behavior. The child’s peers reject him for touching, pushing, and invading their space. Feeling excluded causes a preschool child with ADHD to become vulnerable, allowing him to be bullied. (Yes, even in preschool!) Parents feel frustration, stress and guilt. Parents are taught in this book to diminish their child’s misbehaviors by following simple, step-by-step methods to facilitate positive behavior. They learn the first line of treatment for their preschool child with ADHD, which are behavioral interventions, whether they should discipline him for displaying behavior he cannot control, and how to teach him social skills when he is so distractible. Parents are taught to respond in an affirmative way to their child’s appropriate behavior, positively impacting his self-esteem.

When cognitive behavior therapy emerged in the 1950s, driven by the work of Albert Ellis and Aaron Beck, basic behavior principles were largely sidelined in clinical psychology curricula. Issues in cognition became the focus of case conceptualization and intervention planning for most therapists. But as the new third-wave behavior therapies begin to address weaknesses in the traditional cognitive behavioral models-principally the modest effectiveness of thought stopping and cognitive restructuring techniques-basic behavior principles are once again attracting the interest of front-line clinicians. Many of today's clinicians, though, received their training during the years in which classical behaviorism was not a major part of clinical education. In order to make the best use of the new contextual behaviorism, they need to revisit basic behavioral principles from a practical angle. This book addresses this need. The ABCs of Human Behavior offers practicing clinicians a pithy and practical introduction to the basics of modern behavioral psychology. The book focuses both on the classical principles of learning as well as more recent developments that explain language and cognition in behavioral and contextual terms. These principles are not just discussed in the abstract-rather the book shows how the principles of learning apply in the clinical context. Practical and easy to read, the book walks clinicians through both common sense and clinical examples that help them learn to use behavioral principles to observe, explain, and influence behavior in a therapeutic setting.

About the Book: An ecological view of the human mental condition is that our mind is capable of producing spirals of joyful success and or career of failures. This book offers the reader a view of how life circumstances can change a person's opportunity for "normalcy" and success to a career of abnormal and deviant behaviors. Experiential abstracts encountered by the author are included to provide the reader examples of mental changes that evolve to defend against overwhelming pain of anxiety. The author contends that to achieve positive and durable change from irrational to rational behavior; a "bundle" of relevant psychological theories can be used to explore and deal with forces of: root cause, psychosocial needs, and dependence. Behavior Health students and treatment planners skilled in "Smart Change" strategies will have a leg up on addressing forces of "set back" as part of the plan.

Talking Their Way Into Science written by Karen Gallas and has been published by Teachers College Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1995-01-01 with Education categories.
Karen Gallas provides us with a window into children’s thinking about the world, enabling us to see how students build complex theories, identify important questions, and begin to enter the world of science, all within the naturalistic setting of the classroom. As the title suggests, this book treats classroom science as a particular type of discourse, with its own set of language and thinking practices. Gallas describes the content, structure, and practice of her child-centered approach, explains how the teacher’s role in Science Talks develops and changes over time, and discusses how the use of Science Talks could transform science instruction as a whole. The full transcripts of two such talks included in the appendix, in addition to many smaller quoted interchanges throughout the text, will fascinate readers.
