Fighting Talk written by Colin S. Gray and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-04-30 with History categories.
Gray presents an inventive treatise on the nature of strategy, war, and peace, organized around forty maxims. This collection of mini-essays will forearm politicians, soldiers, and the attentive general public against many—probably most—fallacies that abound in contemporary debates about war, peace, and security. While one can never guarantee strategic success, which depends on policy, military prowess, and the quality of the dialogue between the two, a strategic education led by the judgments in these maxims increases the chances that one's errors will be small rather than catastrophic. The maxims are grouped according to five clusters. War and Peace tackles the larger issues of strategic history that drive the demand for the services of strategic thought and practice. Strategy presses further, into the realm of strategic behavior, and serves as a bridge between the political focus of part one and the military concerns that follow. In Military Power and Warfare turns to the pragmatic business of military performance: operations, tactics, and logistics. Part four, Security and Insecurity examines why strategy is important, including a discussion of the nature, dynamic character, and functioning of world politics. Finally, History and the Future is meant to help strategists better understand the processes of historical change.

YouaEUR(tm)re holding in your hands now, Solutions to all of your relationship challenges for now and the future. One of the finest book about love and forgiveness we have ever read, this inspiring book guides us how to reach the full potential to a lasting commitment of joy, peace, forgiveness, and endless love while fulfilling yourself daily. The best-loved teaching and forgiveness show us how we can transform all life difficulties of the couple into a valuable opportunity for building a healthy relationship we have been looking for a long time. When weaEUR(tm)re talking about love or forgiveness, is there really Western or Eastern love? Does not everyone seek happiness, joy, peace, unconditional love, financial security? Do we not seek a wise, intelligent, and captivating man or woman to build forgiveness and love based on mutual respect, understanding, responsibility, integrity and humility, faithfulness, effective communication, family, and community spirit? Human being is perfectly imperfect, but we can be perfected in love, forgiveness, and kindness. Each of us has already been hurt, betrayed, and despised by our wife or our husband, and would like to hear the words: aEURoeI apologize sincerely,aEUR aEURoeI am sorry for everything that has happened between us,aEUR aEURoeI truly regret everything,aEUR aEURoeI love you tremendously,aEUR aEURoeYou are adorable,aEUR aEURoeWe will get there. I trust you,aEUR aEURoeI promise to be faithful, supportive, and loyal.aEUR ShouldnaEUR(tm)t you also think about forgiving, loving, having patience for your husband and for your wife who was yesterday the prince charming or the woman of your dreams who no longer has any value in your eyes today? YouaEUR(tm)re saying, aEURoeHeaEUR(tm)s my enemy.aEUR ArenaEUR(tm)t you someone elseaEUR(tm)s enemy? Our greatest enemy, isnaEUR(tm)t that ourselves? When you remind your husband of things that have happened in the last twenty years, or explain to your friends and colleagues the private life of your relationship or the mistakes of either one of you, arenaEUR(tm)t you destroying the relationship by thinking youaEUR(tm)re hurting your husband or wife? Teeth sometimes bite the tongue, but they remain together. Let us be merciful and slow to anger, rich in kindness and fidelity. Love is patient; it is full of greatness and sacrifice. Should we not be a source of love in order to know the height, depth, length, and width of love? Love is strong as death. Death, life, and environmental difficulties can never overcome immeasurable love. At the point where we have reached, let us walk with the same step, eye to eye, hand in hand, with the same vision. We have a lot more in common than you think. I only have a minute. Sixty seconds in it. Forced upon me, I did not choose it, but I know that I must use it. Give account if I abuse it. Suffer, if I lose it. Only a tiny little minute, But eternity is in it. (Rep. Elijah Cummings) DonaEUR(tm)t ever make decisions based on fear. Make decisions based on hope and possibility. Make decisions based on what should happen, not what shouldnaEUR(tm)t. (Michelle Obama) To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you. (Lewis B. Mark Twain And Metaphor

Mark Twain And Metaphor written by John Bird and has been published by University of Missouri Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.
Metaphor theory, observes John Bird, is like Mark Twain: both seem simple upon first introduction. Now, in the most complete study to date of Twain's use of figurative language, a veteran Twain scholar tackles the core of his writing and explores it with theoretical approaches that have rarely been applied to Twain, providing new insights into how he imagined his world--and the singular ways in which he expressed himself. From "The Jumping Frog" to the late dream narratives, Bird considers Twain's metaphoric construction over his complete career and especially sheds new light on his central texts: Roughing It; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer; Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court; Pudd'nhead Wilson; and No. 44,The Mysterious Stranger. He reconsiders "Old Times on the Mississippi" as the most purely metaphorical of Twain's writings, goes on to look at how Twain used metaphor and talked about it in a variety of works and genres, and even argues that Clemens's pseudonym is not so much an alter ego as a metaphorized self. By offering insight into how Twain handled figurative language during the composing process, Bird reveals not only hidden facets of his artistry but also new aspects of works that we think we know well--including some entirely new ideas regarding Huck Finn that draw on the recent discovery of the first half of the manuscript. In addition to dealing with issues currently central to Twain studies, such as race and gender, he also links metaphor to humor and dream theory to further illuminate topics central to his work. More than a study of Twain's language, the book delves into the psychological aspects of metaphor to reveal the writer's attitudes and thoughts, showing how using metaphor as a guide to Twain reveals much about his composition process. Applying the insights of metaphor theorists such as Roman Jakobson and Colin M. Turbayne, Bird offers readers not only new insights into Twain but also an introduction to this interdisciplinary field. In lively prose, Mark Twain and Metaphor provides a vital way to read Twain's entire corpus, allowing readers to better appreciate his style, humor, and obsession with dreams. It opens new ground and makes old ground fresh again, offering ways to see and resee this essential American writer.

Think there's no 'I' in team'? There is. Believe that together everyone achieves more? They don't. Asked to give it 110 per cent? You can't. Think employees are your greatest asset? They ain't. Got an open-door policy? For goodness sake — shut it! Whether you're a perpetrator or a casualty of cringe-worthy corporate clichés (or both), Corporate Punishment will challenge the way you think about the world of business and the mind-numbing management mottos that have underpinned it for decades. From teams and leadership to workplace culture and customer service, James Adonis smashes to pieces some of the most deeply entrenched business philosophies, offering in their place a progressive new thought process that's light on rhetoric and boring theory, but heavy on practicality and imagination. This book is a protest, a movement, a changing of the management guard — it is the breath of fresh air every modern business needs and a long overdue break from the hot air that most are forced to endure.
