As education becomes more dependent on data-intensive algorithmic systems, private corporate power continues to grow. Left unregulated, the implications for children's basic rights and future life chances are not to be underestimated. In this book, Velislava Hillman argues that datafication, i.e. turning all human actions into data, and surveillance have been normalised in eductional settings and shows how edtech products are not improving education equally for all children. She calls for a licensing regime which drives the edtech industry towards ethical practices and meeting appropriate standards before they are allowed to operate in schools. Looking beyond edtech's potentials, this book outlines a governance framework across socio-technical, ethical, critical pedagogic, and human rights imperatives for governing the digitisation of education.

Zusammenfassung: This open access handbook synthesizes the current research about the impacts of digital media on children across development. Drawing on the expertise of scientists and researchers as well as clinicians and practitioners, the book summarizes research through interdisciplinary expert reviews. First, it addresses the cognitive, physical, mental, and psychosocial impacts on infants, children, and adolescents. Next, the book explores how media influences relationships, family, culture, and society. Finally, it examines the impacts of specific digital domains pertinent to youth, including education technology, video gaming, and emerging technologies. Chapters employ a parallel structure, including background on the topic, summary of the current state of the research, future research directions, and recommendations for relevant stakeholders. The volume examines the timely issue of optimal child development in an increasingly digital age, offering innovative approaches to establish a solid and robust scientific foundation for this field of study as well as evidence-based action for adults who support positive youth development. Educational Technology And Pedagogic Encounters written by Yusef Waghid and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-07-15 with Education categories.

This book looks at some of the underlying theories of educational technology (means), and ways in which this technology is guided in practice (ends). The authors are intent on producing ends that prepare students to undertake new analyses and evaluations that can result in new possibilities for democratic action. Emphasis is on their understanding of and position within educational technology – as opposed to using or applying educational technology. The work is not written from the point of view that their embeddedness within educational technology has a utilitarian end in mind, but rather that their situatedness within educational technology (a practice in itself) leaves open possibilities for new ways of understanding democratic education. This book is organised into six interrelated themes that work towards the cultivation of educational technology as a human practice which guides pedagogic encounters on the basis of taking risks in relation to which the unexpected, unimaginable is always possible.

The objective of the NATO Advanced Research Workshop "Learning electricity and electronics with advanced educational technology" was to bring together researchers coming from different domains. Electricity education is a domain where a lot of research has already been made. The first meeting on electricity teaching was organized in 1984 by R. Duit, W. Jung and C. von Rhoneck in Ludwigsburg (Germany). Since then, research has been going on and we can consider that the workshop was the successor of this first meeting. Our goal was not to organize a workshop grouping only people producing software in the field of electricity education or more generally in the field of physics education, even if this software was based on artificial intelligence techniques. On the contrary, we wanted this workshop to bring together researchers involved in the connection between cognitive science and the learning of a well defined domain such as electricity. So during the workshop, people doing research in physics education, cognitive psychology, and artificial intelligence had the opportunity to discuss and exchange. These proceedings reflect the different points of view. The main idea is that designing a learning environment needs the confrontation of different approaches. The proceedings are organized in five parts which reflect these different aspects.
