Tania El Khoury's Live Art is the first book to examine the work of Tania El Khoury, a "live" artist deeply engaged in the politics and histories of the South West Asia and North Africa (SWANA) region. Since the 2011 Syrian uprisings, El Khoury has conceived and created works about lived experiences at and across international borders in collaboration with migrants, refugees, and displaced persons as well as other artists, performers, and revolutionaries. All of El Khoury's works cross borders: between forms of artistic practice, between artists and audiences, and between art and activism. Facilitating critical dialogue about the politics of SWANA and the impact of globalization, her performances and installations also test the boundaries of aesthetic, political, and everyday norms. This interdisciplinary and multimedia reader features essays by artists, curators, and scholars who explore the dynamic possibilities and complexities of El Khoury's art. This book explores the intersection of geographical knowledge and artistic research in terms of both creative methods and practice-based research. In doing so it brings together geography’s ‘creative turn’ with the art world’s ‘research turn.’ Based on a decade and a half of ethnographic stories of working at the intersection of creative arts practices and geographical research, this book offers a much-needed critical account of these forms of knowledge production. Adopting a geohumanities approach to investigating how these forms of knowledge are produced, consumed, and circulated, it queries what imaginaries and practices of the key sites of knowledge making (including the field, the artist’s studio, the PhD thesis, and the exhibition) emerge and how these might challenge existing understandings of these locations. Inspired by the geographies of science and knowledge, art history and theory, and accounts of working within and beyond disciplines, this book seeks to understand the geographies of research at the intersection of geography and creative arts practices, how these geographies challenge existing understandings of these disciplines and practices, and what they might contribute to our wider discussions of working beyond disciplines, including through artistic research. This book offers a timely contribution to the emerging fields of artistic research and geohumanities, and will appeal to undergraduate and postgraduate students and researchers.

Built around the Live Arts Bard 2019 Biennial of the same name, "Where No Wall Remains" is a record of performances and interactive art projects by international artists on the subject of borders. The artists mark the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall through an exploration of contemporary borders in kaleidoscopic forms: political, physical, psychological, culinary, autobiographical. As the United States accepts fewer and fewer immigrants, ICE commits human rights violations at the Mexican border, and international borders close due to COVID-19, these newly commissioned performances hold urgent significance. Although the state of the world and its borders is dire, "Where No Wall Remains," a phrase taken from a love poem by Rumi, invites us to imagine not only our xenophobic present, but a future utopian state of being--a fully unbordered world. Writing in Time seeks to tell a different story--the story of the documents themselves. Rather than presenting the "Master" documents as quarantined from Dickinson's larger scene of textual production, Marta Werner's innovative new edition proposes reading them next to Dickinson's other major textual experiment in the years between ca. 1858-1861: the Fascicles.
