The second in a series of three volumes surveying the theory of theta functions, this volume gives emphasis to the special properties of the theta functions associated with compact Riemann surfaces and how they lead to solutions of the Korteweg-de-Vries equations as well as other non-linear differential equations of mathematical physics. This book presents an explicit elementary construction of hyperelliptic Jacobian varieties and is a self-contained introduction to the theory of the Jacobians. It also ties together nineteenth-century discoveries due to Jacobi, Neumann, and Frobenius with recent discoveries of Gelfand, McKean, Moser, John Fay, and others. A definitive body of information and research on the subject of theta functions, this volume will be a useful addition to individual and mathematics research libraries.

This volume is the third of three in a series surveying the theory of theta functions. Based on lectures given by the author at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Bombay, these volumes constitute a systematic exposition of theta functions, beginning with their historical roots as analytic functions in one variable (Volume I), touching on some of the beautiful ways they can be used to describe moduli spaces (Volume II), and culminating in a methodical comparison of theta functions in analysis, algebraic geometry, and representation theory (Volume III).

This volume contains the first two out of four chapters which are intended to survey a large part of the theory of theta functions. These notes grew out of a series of lectures given at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in the period October, 1978, to March, 1979, on which notes were taken and excellently written up by C. Musili and M. Nori. I subsequently lectured at greater length on the contents of Chapter III at Harvard in the fall of 1979 and at a Summer School in Montreal in August, 1980, and again notes were very capably put together by E. Previato and M. Stillman, respectively. Both the Tata Institute and the University of Montreal publish lecture note series in which I had promised to place write-ups of my lectures there. However, as the project grew, it became clear that it was better to tie all these results together, rearranging and consolidating the material, and to make them available from one place. I am very grateful to the Tata Institute and the University of Montreal for permission to do this, and to Birkhauser-Boston for publishing the final result. The first 2 chapters study theta functions strictly from the viewpoint of classical analysis. In particular, in Chapter I, my goal was to explain in the simplest cases why the theta functions attracted attention.

More Explorations In Complex Functions written by Richard Beals and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-07-01 with Mathematics categories.
More Explorations in Complex Functions is something of a sequel to GTM 287, Explorations in Complex Functions. Both texts introduce a variety of topics, from core material in the mainstream of complex analysis to tools that are widely used in other areas of mathematics and applications, but there is minimal overlap between the two books. The intended readership is the same, namely graduate students and researchers in complex analysis, independent readers, seminar attendees, or instructors for a second course in complex analysis. Instructors will appreciate the many options for constructing a second course that builds on a standard first course in complex analysis. Exercises complement the results throughout. There is more material in this present text than one could expect to cover in a year’s course in complex analysis. A mapping of dependence relations among chapters enables instructors and independent readers a choice of pathway to reading the text. Chapters 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 contain the function theory background for some stochastic equations of current interest, such as SLE. The text begins with two introductory chapters to be used as a resource. Chapters 3 and 4 are stand-alone introductions to complex dynamics and to univalent function theory, including deBrange’s theorem, respectively. Chapters 5—7 may be treated as a unit that leads from harmonic functions to covering surfaces to the uniformization theorem and Fuchsian groups. Chapter 8 is a stand-alone treatment of quasiconformal mapping that paves the way for Chapter 9, an introduction to Teichmüller theory. The final chapters, 10–14, are largely stand-alone introductions to topics of both theoretical and applied interest: the Bergman kernel, theta functions and Jacobi inversion, Padé approximants and continued fractions, the Riemann—Hilbert problem and integral equations, and Darboux’s method for computing asymptotics.

This volume brings together recent, original research and survey articles by leading experts in several fields that include singularity theory, algebraic geometry and commutative algebra. The motivation for this collection comes from the wide-ranging research of the distinguished mathematician, Antonio Campillo, in these and related fields. Besides his influence in the mathematical community stemming from his research, Campillo has also endeavored to promote mathematics and mathematicians' networking everywhere, especially in Spain, Latin America and Europe. Because of his impressive achievements throughout his career, we dedicate this book to Campillo in honor of his 65th birthday. Researchers and students from the world-wide, and in particular Latin American and European, communities in singularities, algebraic geometry, commutative algebra, coding theory, and other fields covered in the volume, will have interest in this book.

Advances On Superelliptic Curves And Their Applications written by L. Beshaj and has been published by IOS Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-07-16 with Computers categories.
This book had its origins in the NATO Advanced Study Institute (ASI) held in Ohrid, Macedonia, in 2014. The focus of this ASI was the arithmetic of superelliptic curves and their application in different scientific areas, including whether all the applications of hyperelliptic curves, such as cryptography, mathematical physics, quantum computation and diophantine geometry, can be carried over to the superelliptic curves. Additional papers have been added which provide some background for readers who were not at the conference, with the intention of making the book logically more complete and easier to read, but familiarity with the basic facts of algebraic geometry, commutative algebra and number theory are assumed. The book is divided into three sections. The first part deals with superelliptic curves with regard to complex numbers, the automorphisms group and the corresponding Hurwitz loci. The second part of the book focuses on the arithmetic of the subject, while the third addresses some of the applications of superelliptic curves.
