Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: Die Art der Nutzung moderner Kommunikationsmittel, insbesondere bei Kindern und Heranwachsenden, wird regelmäßig von verschiedenen Instituten und Vereinigungen erhoben. Meist handelt es sich bei den Untersuchungen um Fragebogenstudien. Sie resümieren eine gesteigerte Internet- und Handynutzung von Kindern und Jugendlichen in den letzten 10 Jahren. Hatten 1999 nur 13 % der 6- bis 13-Jährigen Erfahrungen mit dem Internet gemacht, so stieg der Anteil der Kinder, die das Internet nutzten, kontinuierlich auf 68 % im Jahr 2005. Ein Viertel von ihnen chattete regelmäßig. 2005 besaß fast jedes zweite Kind ein eigenes Handy. Die zunehmende Verbreitung moderner Medien unter Minderjährigen birgt eine Reihe von Gefahren. Eine 2005 vom Kriminologischen Forschungsinstitut Niedersachsen durchgeführte Befragung von 17.000 Neunt- und 6.000 Viertklässler im westdeutschen Raum weist auf einen negativen Zusammenhang zwischen der Nutzungsintensität neuer Medien (Fernsehgerät, Spielekonsole) und den schulischen Leistungen hin. ‘Je stärker die Präferenz für Mediengewalt ausfällt und je höher die Medienzeiten der Schüler, desto negativer wirken sich diese Faktoren auf die Schulleistungen aus’. Das Spielen gewalthaltiger Video- und Computerspiele sowie der Konsum solcher Filme führe zudem zu einer erhöhten Gewaltbereitschaft und zu einer allgemeinen Befürwortung männlicher Gewalt. Mößle, Kleimann, Rehbein und Pfeiffer beobachteten negative Auswirkung durch entwicklungsbeeinträchtigende Video- und Computerspiele und nicht altersgerechte Filme auf die kognitive Leistungsfähigkeit. In diesem Zusammenhang wären jedoch neben den nicht altersgerechten Inhalten der zeitliche Aufwand der Spiele zu diskutieren, welchen die Kinder weder durch Bewältigung schulischer Aufgaben noch mit einer altersgemäßeren Freizeitgestaltung verbringen. Dazu zählt auch die Vernachlässigung sportlicher Aktivitäten, was zu physiologischen Defiziten (z.B. Erhöhung des Körperfettanteils, Störungen des Herz-Kreislaufsystems usw.) führen kann. Eine weitere Gefahr birgt der nicht adäquate Umgang mit dem Internet. Neben dem Risiko, das Opfer von Online-Betrug oder Kreditfallen zu werden, steigt auch die Gefahr in Kontakt mit Pädosexuellen zu geraten.
