For over fifty years I have wished I had such a book as you are now considering. I truly love the book - the original - Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith [TPJS] that President Joseph Fielding Smith and his staff compiled back in 1938. It has served us well as a fundamentally sound source to personally check each of us in our doctrinal understanding as a people! For a one volume authoritative work where students, teachers and leaders can quickly reference and assure themselves that they are in harmony with the head of the dispensation - it will never be outdated. For a more in depth study, the extensive multi-volume work being done by the Joseph Smith Papers staff is adding to increased accuracy of the TPJS and is filling in the gaps of understanding found in the History of the Church by B. H. Roberts but, realistically, I doubt if but a small percentage of the Church will ever really use the Papers - much less use it very extensively. To be sure the more scholarly will and are but probably not most teachers, leaders and general students of the Gospel - often just as a factor of the lack of time. The downside of the TPJS has been, as you know, it is hard to find quotes in the TPJS - those juicy morsels for essays, talks and lessons as the current index is quite inadequate. So, I decided to publish my own TPJS and to topically organize it; not just a meagerly focused index but actual sentences and verbatim paragraphs which convey in-depth insights and demonstrate the doctrinal development of this great Prophet's heaven revealed teachings. In this volume there are over 350 topic categories chronologically copied word-for-word from the 1938 version. I would not claim this work to be absolutely comprehensive but it is quite thorough as the many topics overlap extensively - many, many times. Each topic becomes, as it were, a window into the Prophet's teachings giving us multiple perspectives and depth of perception granting us much inspired understanding.

These volumes have served us well as a fundamentally sound source to personally check each of us in our doctrinal understanding as Latter-day Saints, and now with this tool you will be able to compare Brother Rulon's impromptu discourses with my "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith - Topically Organized" and my "LDS Conference Report Extracts - 1852-1886" which will aid you in comparing the doctrinal teachings and views of all these Prophets Brigham Young, John Taylor, Wilford Woodruff, Lorenzo Snow and Joseph F. Smith with each other. This one volume authoritative work (TPRCA-TO) contains over 500 topics into which the excerpts of Rulon C. Allred's verbatim discourses of the last seven years [7] of his mortal ministry have been categorically placed. These are alphabetically organized for students, teachers and leaders who can now quickly reference and assure themselves that they are personally in harmony with with the heaven inspired teachings of this powerful prophet and successor of the Prophet Joseph Smith. The truths herein contained will provide for quick - more in depth studies - of easily comparible doctrinal teaching of all these, before mentioned prophets of the Living God. As with the "Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith" (or the TPJS), Brother Rulon's Teachings in the two 1981-1982 blue volumes called "Treasures of Knowledge" - it has heretofore been very difficult to find specific doctrinal principles in a collected format to tap into for sermons, lessons and general study; and to compare and contrast doctrines and teachings with the various contenders or "would-be successors" of the Prophet Joseph Smith. I would not claim this work to be absolutely comprehensive but it is quite thorough as the many topics overlap extensively - many, many times. Enjoy!
