Eating God examines the history of the Eucharist as a means for understanding transformations in society from the late Middle Ages onwards. Dieses Heft von "Geschichte und Region/Storia e regione" widmet sich der Tourismusgeschichte und wählt dafür zwei verschiedene Herangehensweisen – die eine methodisch, die andere thematisch fokussiert. Der erste, von Hester Margreiter, Ingrid Runggaldier und Katharina Scharf herausgegebene Teil nähert sich der Tourismusgeschichte über den gezielten methodischen Vergleich von Tourismusregionen. Dabei nehmen die vier Aufsätze von Marlene Horejs, Hans Heiss, Claudia C. Gatzka und Christian Rohr je andere Blickwinkel ein und perspektivieren den jeweiligen regionalen Vergleich etwa über die Rolle von Schulunterricht, Reiseführern oder Bergbahnen oder aber über geografische, sozioökonomische, kulturelle, auch architektonische Aspekte. Sie untersuchen anschauliche Beispiele hauptsächlich aus dem Alpen- und oberitalienischen Raum des 19./beginnenden 20. Jahrhunderts und können aufzeigen, wie erkenntnisgewinnend die historische Komparatistik für eine regionalgeschichtlich ausgerichtete Tourismusgeschichte sein kann. Der zweite, von Paolo Raspadori herausgegebene Teil hingegen schlägt eine thematische Schneise und richtet sein Interesse auf das für den Tourismus so grundlegende Phänomen der Saisonalität, das im Laufe der Jahrzehnte und Jahrhunderte zahlreiche Veränderungen und Verschiebungen erfahren hat. Die vier Aufsätze nehmen die Tourismussaison für je andere regionale Räume unter die Lupe: Evelyn Reso analysiert die Sommersaison 1907 in einem Hotel in Seis am Schlern anhand der Briefe einer Saisonangestellten, während Riccardo Semeraro die saisonbedingten Entwicklungen am Gardasee für einen langen Zeitraum von 1870 bis 1970 in den Blick nimmt. Andrea Zanini untersucht den Wandel von Tourismussaison und -klientel an der ligurischen Riviera während der Belle Époque und Elisa Tizzoni widmet sich der Erschließung der Cinque Terre als Tourismusdestination in der zweiten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts.

Etienne Decroux and His Theatre Laboratory is based on the long-awaited translation of Marco De Marinis' monumental work on mime in the twentieth century: Mimo e teatro nel Novecento (1993). Now revised and updated, the volume focuses specifically on the seminal role played by French mime artist and pedagogue Etienne Decroux. Mime is a theatrical form of ancient tradition. In the nineteenth century, it saw both apogee and crisis in the west with the realistic and gesticulating 'white pantomime'. In the twentieth century, it underwent a radical overhaul, transforming into an 'abstract' corporeal art that shunned imitation and narrative, and which instead tended towards the plastic, elliptic, allusive, and symbolic transposition of actions and situations. This book is the result of detailed investigations, based on contemporary accounts and obscure or unpublished materials. Through the examination of the creative, pedagogical, and theoretical work of the 'inventor' of the new mime art, Etienne Decroux, De Marinis focuses on the different assumptions underlying the various modes of the problematic presence of mime in the theatre of the twentieth century: from the utopia of a 'pure' theatre, attributed to the sole essence of the actor, to its decline into a closed poetic genre often nostalgically stuck in the past; from mime as a pedagogical tool for the actor to mime as an expressive and virtuosic means in the hands of the director.
