Jessica Longen untersucht, welche Rolle der Einsatz von Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien bei Verlagerungsprozessen in Unternehmensnetzwerken spielt. Anhand von Fallstudien in Callcentern zeigt sie die Zusammenhänge zwischen räumlichen Restrukturierungsprozessen und Technikeinsatz in Organisationen auf. Zur Analyse aktueller Tendenzen im Bereich informatisierter Dienstleistungsarbeit kombiniert die Autorin sozialwissenschaftliche Erkenntnisse zur Transnationalisierung und Vernetzung von Arbeitsorganisationen. Es zeigt sich, dass die durch den Technikeinsatz gegebenen Optionen der Verlagerung von Arbeit nur teilweise umgesetzt werden und kaum in eine Internationalisierung von Callcenter-Arbeit münden. Die Durchführung entsprechender Restrukturierungen hängt vielmehr auch von Charakteristika lokaler Kontexte (wie z.B. Arbeitsmärkten) und Potentialen der Umverteilung von Arbeit zwischen Kunden, Beschäftigten und Technik ab.
