Finding the sources of sound in large nonlinear fields via direct simulation currently requires excessive computational cost. This paper describes a simple technique for efficiently solving the multidimensional nonlinear Euler equations that significantly reduces this cost and demonstrates a useful approach for validating high order nonlinear methods. Up to 15th order accuracy in space and time methods were compared and it is shown that an algorithm with a fixed design accuracy approaches its maximal utility and then its usefulness exponentially decays unless higher accuracy is used. It is concluded that at least a 7th order method is required to efficiently propagate a harmonic wave using the nonlinear Euler equations to a distance of 5 wavelengths while maintaining an overall error tolerance that is low enough to capture both the mean flow and the acoustics. Idihom Industrialization Of High Order Methods A Top Down Approach written by Norbert Kroll and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-01-02 with Technology & Engineering categories.

The book describes the main findings of the EU-funded project IDIHOM (Industrialization of High-Order Methods – A Top-Down Approach). The goal of this project was the improvement, utilization and demonstration of innovative higher-order simulation capabilities for large-scale aerodynamic application challenges in the aircraft industry. The IDIHOM consortium consisted of 21 organizations, including aircraft manufacturers, software vendors, as well as the major European research establishments and several universities, all of them with proven expertise in the field of computational fluid dynamics. After a general introduction to the project, the book reports on new approaches for curved boundary-grid generation, high-order solution methods and visualization techniques. It summarizes the achievements, weaknesses and perspectives of the new simulation capabilities developed by the project partners for various industrial applications, and includes internal- and external-aerodynamic as well as multidisciplinary test cases.

This textbook introduces methods of accelerating transient stability (dynamic) simulation and electromagnetic transient simulation on massively parallel processors for large-scale AC-DC grids – two of the most common and computationally onerous studies done by energy control centers and research laboratories for the planning, design, and operation of such integrated grids for ensuring the security and reliability of electric power. Simulation case studies provided in the book range from small didactic test circuits to realistic-sized AC-DC grids, and special emphasis is placed on detailed device-level multi-physics models for power system equipment and decomposition techniques for simulating large-scale systems. Parallel Dynamic and Transient Simulation of Large-Scale Power Systems: A High Performance Computing Solution is a comprehensive state-of-the-art guide for upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in power systems engineering. Practicing engineers, software developers, and scientists working in the power and energy industry will find it to be a timely and valuable reference for solving potential problems in their design and development activities. Detailed device-level electro-thermal modeling for power electronic systems in DC grids; Provides comprehensive dynamic and transient simulation of integrated large-scale AC-DC grids; Offers detailed models of renewable energy system models.

Numerical Modelling Of Wave Energy Converters written by Matt Folley and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-06-14 with Technology & Engineering categories.

Numerical Modelling of Wave Energy Converters: State-of-the Art Techniques for Single WEC and Converter Arrays presents all the information and techniques required for the numerical modelling of a wave energy converter together with a comparative review of the different available techniques. The authors provide clear details on the subject and guidance on its use for WEC design, covering topics such as boundary element methods, frequency domain models, spectral domain models, time domain models, non linear potential flow models, CFD models, semi analytical models, phase resolving wave propagation models, phase averaging wave propagation models, parametric design and control optimization, mean annual energy yield, hydrodynamic loads assessment, and environmental impact assessment. Each chapter starts by defining the fundamental principles underlying the numerical modelling technique and finishes with a discussion of the technique's limitations and a summary of the main points in the chapter. The contents of the chapters are not limited to a description of the mathematics, but also include details and discussion of the current available tools, examples available in the literature, and verification, validation, and computational requirements. In this way, the key points of each modelling technique can be identified without having to get deeply involved in the mathematical representation that is at the core of each chapter. The book is separated into four parts. The first two parts deal with modelling single wave energy converters; the third part considers the modelling of arrays; and the final part looks at the application of the different modelling techniques to the four most common uses of numerical models. It is ideal for graduate engineers and scientists interested in numerical modelling of wave energy converters, and decision-makers who must review different modelling techniques and assess their suitability and output. - Consolidates in one volume information and techniques for the numerical modelling of wave energy converters and converter arrays, which has, up until now, been spread around multiple academic journals and conference proceedings making it difficult to access - Presents a comparative review of the different numerical modelling techniques applied to wave energy converters, discussing their limitations, current available tools, examples, and verification, validation, and computational requirements - Includes practical examples and simulations available for download at the book's companion website - Identifies key points of each modelling technique without getting deeply involved in the mathematical representation
