Tectonics and Seismic Structure of Alaska and Northwestern Canada EarthScope and Beyond The northwest of the North American continent is geologically dynamic and tectonically active. A network of seismic and geodetic instruments deployed across the region as part of the EarthScope project provided data crucial to understanding its geological, tectonic, and seismic processes. Tectonics and Seismic Structure of Alaska and Northwestern Canada: EarthScope and Beyond presents review papers and new scientific studies using EarthScope data to advance understanding of the region’s structure, seismic activity, and geodynamic processes. About this volume: Describes the infrastructure and capabilities of the EarthScope seismic and geodetic networks Draws from a comprehensive set of geophysical data Includes field studies, laboratory analyses, and numerical modeling Spans processes from the Earth’s interior and the lower mantle to the crust and surface Covers examples from subduction zones, fault systems, and some of the largest recorded earthquakes Provides scientific explanations for the natural landscapes and ongoing movements shaping the northwest of the North American continent The American Geophysical Union promotes discovery in Earth and space science for the benefit of humanity. Its publications disseminate scientific knowledge and provide resources for researchers, students, and professionals.

Architecture Of The Central Brooks Range Fold And Thrust Belt Arctic Alaska written by John S. Oldow and has been published by Geological Society of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-01-01 with Science categories.

The 17 papers presented here introduce results on geological and geophysical research centred largely along a North-South transect through the central Brooks Range of Arctic Alaska. Investigations centre on a descripton of the rocks and their tectonic evolution from the foreland to the hinterland of the orogen, the geometry and kinematics of contractional and extensional structures, regional and local stratigraphic relations, thermochronology, and the deep crustal structure of the Brooks Range and parts of the North Slope, and descriptions of the major lithotectonic assemblages, composing the orogenic belt.

Crustal Cross Sections From The Western North American Cordillera And Elsewhere written by Robert Bruce Miller and has been published by Geological Society of America this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009 with Science categories.

"Exposed crustal cross sections provide a unique direct view of continental crust, and are a major source of insights into variations in lithologic and geochemical composition, structural style, metamorphism, plutonism, and rheology with progressive depth through the crust. This volume provides a synthesis of crustal cross sections with a special emphasis on Phanerozoic sections from the western North American Cordillera, supplemented by articles on lower- and mid-crustal sections through Proterozoic crust in North America and Australia, and the classic crustal section of Fiordland, New Zealand. Many of the papers describe multidisciplinary research on crustal sections and include data from various combinations of structural analysis, geochemistry, geothermobarometry, geochronology, geophysics, and other disciplines. The volume also discusses common problems for the interpretation of crustal cross sections, including how sections that expose deep-crustal rocks are eventually exhumed, and leading to the conclusion that there is no simple 'standard model' for continental crust. This volume will be useful to those interested in structural geology, tectonics, geodynamics, regional geology, petrology, geochemistry/isotope geology, and geophysics."--Pub. desc.

K.R. McClay Department of Geology, Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, Egham, Surrey, England TW20 OEX. Since the first Thrust and Nappe Tectonics Conference in London in 1979 (McClay & Price 1981), and the Toulouse Meeting on Thrusting and Deformation in 1984 (Platt et al. 1986) there have been considerable advances in the study of thrust systems incorporating new field observations, conceptual models, mechanical models, analogue and numerical simulations, together with geophysical studies of thrust belts. Thrust Tectonics 1990 was an International Conference convened by the editor and held at Royal Holloway and Bedford New College, University of London, Egham Surrey, from April 4th until April 7th 1990. There were one hundred and seventy participants from all continents except South America. The conference was generously sponsored by Brasoil U.K. Limited, BP Exploration, Chevron U.K. Limited, Clyde Petroleum, Enterprise Oil, Esso Exploration and Production UK Limited, and Shell U.K. Exploration and Production. One hundred and five contributions were presented at the meeting, - seventy six oral presentations (together with poster displays) and an additional twenty nine posters without oral presentation (McClay 1990, conference abstract volume).

"This multi-disciplinary monograph provides the first modern integrative summary of the most spectacular active tectonic systems in North America. Encompassing seismology, tectonics, geology, and geodesy, it includes papers that summarize the state of knowledge, including background material for those unfamiliar with the region; address global hypotheses using data from Alaska; and test important global hypotheses using data from this region. It is organized around four major themes: subduction and great earthquakes at the Aleutian Arc; the transition from strike-slip to collision tectonics in the Yakutat Block accretion; the Denali fault and related structures and their role in accommodating permanent deformation of the overriding plate, and; regional integration and large-scale models, and the use of data from Alaska to address important global questions and hypotheses."--Cover description.
