Recently the lives of people from age 18 to 29 have changed so dramatically that a new stage of life has developed, emerging adulthood, that is distinct from both the adolescence that precedes it and the young adulthood that comes in its wake. Rather than marrying and becoming parents in their early twenties, most people in industrialized societies now postpone these transitions until at least their late twenties, and instead spend the time in self-focused exploration as they try out different possibilities in their careers and relationships. In Emerging Adulthood, Jeffrey Jensen Arnett identifies and labels, for the first time, this period exploration, instability, possibility, self-focus, and a sustained sense of being in limbo. An increasing number of emerging adults emphasize having meaningful and satisfying work to a degree not seen in prior generations. Marrying later and exploring more casual sexual relationships have created different hopes and fears concerning long-term commitments and the differences between love and sex. Emerging adults also face the challenge of defending their non-traditional lifestyles to parents and others outside their generation who have made much more traditional choices. In contrast to previous portrayals of emerging adults, Arnett's research shows that they are particularly skilled at maintaining contradictory emotions--they are confident while still being wary, and optimistic in the face of large degrees of uncertainty. As the demographics of American youth, the American workplace, and adulthood continue to evolve, Emerging Adulthood is indispensable reading for anyone wanting to understand the face of modern America.

Reaching For The Moon written by Edited by Julia Park Tracey and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

"I'm glad I'm alive." Doris Louise Bailey, a teen in the Prohibition era, writes this sentiment over and over in her diaries as she struggles with a life-threatening bout of scarlet fever. But it's also an apt summation of how she lived in the years following her brush with death. Reaching for the Moon: More Diaries of a Roaring Twenties Teen (1927-1929) contains Doris's true-life adventures as she flirts with boys, sneaks sips of whiskey and bets on racehorses - breaking rules and hearts along the way. In Portland, Oregon, she's the belle of the ball, enjoying the attention of several handsome gents. In Arizona, she rides a wild strawberry roan, winning races and kissing cowboys. From hospital wards and petting parties to rodeos and boarding school, this older, more complex Doris faces the dawning of the Depression and her own emergence as a young adult with even more humor, passion and love of life than she showed in her earlier diaries. Readers of all ages will relate to her pursuit of true love, freedom, and adventure in her own time and on her own terms.

` Once I started this book I was hooked. Where was this book 10 years ago? So many of the problems I have dealt with and worked out through triall and error are here. It would have saved many tears and tantrums - and those not just from me! Once purchased, you will use it over and over again, for reference' - Communication A thought provoking and practical book about how one supporter, a grandmother, helped her granddaughter search for ways to help her overcome the difficulties they both faced. This book does not dwell on the problems but instead looks for the solutions they found together. It will be useful to all those whose lives are touched by Asperger's Syndrome but especially meaningful to those directly involved in supporting young people in school, college and in the home and neighbourhood setting. It specifically considers: } patterns of organization in daily life } constructing programmes of development for individuals. The book covers the practical issues facing those in their teens and twenties: } rules } daily living skills } personal hygiene } managing money } coping in school and college } friendships } romantic relationships. People with Asperger's Syndrome can be valuable contributors to society if they are given support when they need it. This book is the outcome of the combined efforts of Alex and her grandmother Maude. It is practical, realistic and very positive.
