Cosmosemi Ticas De La Resistencia Y Decolonialidad written by Julieta Haidar and has been published by Sb editorial this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on with Philosophy categories.

A History Of Argentina In The Twentieth Century written by Luis Alberto Romero and has been published by Penn State Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-26 with History categories.

A History of Argentina in the Twentieth Century, originally published in Buenos Aires in 1994, attained instant status as a classic. Written as an introductory text for university students and the general public, it is a profound reflection on the “Argentine dilemma” and the challenges that the country faces as it tries to rebuild democracy. Luis Alberto Romero brilliantly and painstakingly reconstructs and analyzes Argentina’s tortuous, often tragic modern history, from the “alluvial society” born of mass immigration, to the dramatic years of Juan and Eva Perón, to the recent period of military dictatorship. For this second English-language edition, Romero has written new chapters covering the Kirchner decade (2003–13), the upheavals surrounding the country’s 2001 default on its foreign debt, and the tumultuous years that followed as Argentina sought to reestablish a role in the global economy while securing democratic governance and social peace.

The Politics Of Passion written by Gloria Wekker and has been published by Columbia University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006 with Education categories.

The Politics of Passion centers on an old institution among the Afro-Surinamese working class in which women have multiple sexual relationships with both men and women. These women reject marriage because of the bonds of dependency it fosters, preferring to create their own families of kin, lovers, and children. Gloria Wekker analyzes this phenomenon, known as mati work, as she vividly describes the lives of Afro-Surinamese women. She gives an account of women's sexuality that is not limited to either heterosexuality or same-sex sexuality. Her work offers new perspectives on black women's sexuality, the lives of Caribbean women, transnational gay and lesbian movements, and an Afro-Surinamese tradition that challenges conventional Western notions of marriage, gender, and sexuality. By foregrounding the voices of Afro-Surinamese women, Wekker illuminates these women's daily lives in light of the changes occurring in Surinamese society. She also considers the historical, religious, psychological, economic, linguistic, cultural, and political elements that have shaped their lives. The book concludes with stories of women who have migrated to the Netherlands, where they have created new, vibrant mati communities.

FROM THE INTERNATIONALLY BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF WHAT I LOVED AND A WOMAN LOOKING AT MEN LOOKING AT WOMEN 'Richly intelligent insights on every page' Financial Times 'A rare kind of quiet intellectual confidence' Sunday Telegraph In these fascinating, lively and engaging essays, Siri Hustvedt shows what lies behind her fiction: an abiding curiosity about who we are and how we got that way. Covering a wide range of subjects, from the nature of desire to false memories and the paintings of Goya, she draws on her own life and on the insights provided by both the arts and sciences to deepen our understanding of what it means to be human - to live, think and look. 'There is something refreshingly straightforward about her style. It has the confidence born of complex but well digested thoughts' Observer PRAISE FOR SIRI HUSTVEDT: 'Hustvedt is that rare artist, a writer of high intelligence, profound sensuality and a less easily definable capacity for which the only word I can find is wisdom' Salman Rushdie 'It is Hustvedt's gift to write with exemplary clarity of what is by necessity unclear' Hilary Mantel 'Her novels have received a deserved acclaim. But to my mind, she is even more to be admired as an essayist . . . in this regard I feel that she resembles Virginia Woolf ' Observer 'Few contemporary writers are as satisfying and stimulating to read as Siri Hustvedt' Washington Post

Diana E. H. Russell, acclaimed author and researcher on sexual violence against girls and women, and co-editor Roberta Harmes have produced a groundbreaking volume on femicide, the killing of females by males because they are female. Dr. Russell has contributed seven provocative original chapters to Femicide in Global Perspective. This anthology includes chapters on woman-killing in Algeria, Australia, Canada, China, Israel, South Africa, other Southern African countries, the United States, and brief testimony from other nations. Together, the authors brilliantly demonstrate how naming femicide helps to expose and bring attention to this most extreme yet neglected form of violence against women, and the urgent need to put femicide on local, national and international action agendas.
