Setiap bab ini menyoroti sejarah pengkajian linguistik perbandingan masing-masing di Sulawesi Selatan, Maluku Tengah, dan Kalimantan Barat. Tiga wilayah ini dipilih sebagai contoh perkembangan penerapan linguistik bandingan historis di Nusantara.
