Telling Lies About the Wolves is a collection of fourteen short stories by Mason Powell, some of them previously unpublished, most previously uncollected. Those who know the work of Mason Powell primarily from his intense and often frightening novel The Brig may be surprised at this collection of his early, literary, tales. While they primarily deal with Gay characters, their insights about the human condition reach across the boundaries by which humanity too frequently catagorizes itself into us and them, and reveal eternal truths (some of them not very pretty, but nonetheless true) such as are at the heart of all good fiction. There are homoerotic moments, to be sure, but they are handled with a restraint and delicacy which one might not expect from this author. The great surprise of this collection is the variety of the stories. Next to cynicism there is sentiment. Next to the grimly realistic, there is the heroic, which usually emerges in us ordinary mortals only in the most extraordianry circumstances. In some places the author achieves a kind of mystical bond with the reader which can be downright alarming. And there is humor, sometimes subtle, sometimes slapstick; never a thing one associates with a writer most famed for erotica. The short story, as a form, has been out of favor for a while. With the shortened attention span of the average person these days, and art of all kinds coming in bytes rather than banquets, it might very well be that the time for a revival of short reading has come. If so, Mr. Powell1s collection comes at a most welcome juncture. If you have never read any fiction about Gay people, this might be a good place to start. If you have, and your tastes are sharpened, you may find this a feast of many courses. --Olin T. Fredegar

Big Bad Wolf’s first visit to his local library (as related in Mind Your Manners, B.B. Wolf) was such a success that he returns to tell his version of “The Three Little Pigs.” His outrageous spin on the tale draws skeptical remarks from his audience: “Isn’t that wolf’s nose getting longer?” asks Pinocchio. “It’s a cooked-up, half-baked tale,” snaps the Gingerbread Boy. And “Tell the truth, B.B. Wolf!” squeal the Three Little Pigs. Caught in his own lie, B.B. explains that he is a reformed villain: “Now I’m begging on my knees, Little Pigs, forgive me, please!” How B.B. turns his bad old deed into a good new one provides a happy ending to this fun-to-read fractured fairytale.

This story was written in response to the demands and protests of young people around the world over the past years about getting more freedoms, and about seeking a better atmosphere that promotes decent life opportunities for all, I have tried hard to make the events as general and neutral as possible so the reader move away from the Ideological trends and personal thoughts, so that the reader does not get distracted from the content of the idea itself and to doesn’t go with his mind further to support the division in society. Even if the objectives are noble and their application seems simple and do not require effort, division makes those goals out of reach. The story addresses discusses some viable slogans in fact that are used and misinterpreted in support of outdated ideas either based on a heritage that does not take into account the course of the present, or depends on many of the true news after knowledge became available to all in the age of open skies, to the age that we sink in information and data after we have been looking for them and hardly find them for their scarcity, We have come to see many elders who may have the knowledge and do not have the wisdom to exploit it, in the past the wisdom of the elders has emerged from extracting the knowledge that is not available from the few available, and Today we see young people with the knowledge that the elderly cannot know, but they may lack the experience with which they can make the best use of that knowledge, and we are in an age of unwise elders and inexperienced adults, In an age when young people are ageing in form and subject. What if you find yourself in a land .... - Governed by elders who exploit wisdom. - Governed by the conflicts for control and influence. - Where you will be the prey. - Where the ruler is submissive to humiliation he made by himself. - That is subdued by oppression and injustice. - Where your death be the others fun.
