About the Book In these ten imagined conversations, architecture meets philosophy—through memory, desire, identity, silence, and form. Spanning centuries and ideas, Ten Dialogues invites readers to explore the unseen structure of thought and the emotional resonance of space. Is architecture a projection of the unconscious? Can buildings carry meaning beyond utility? What does it mean to dwell—physically, emotionally, philosophically? This is not a textbook. It is a reflective offering.

Beyond the Illusion: The Unspoken Truths Behind Language and Success peels back the polished surface of English fluency to reveal what’s left unsaid. Across boardrooms, classrooms, and conference calls, Mike Liu shares real-world stories from East Asia that expose the subtle breakdowns, silences, and cultural illusions hidden beneath “perfect English.” Drawing on his experience as a diplomat, educator, and independent author, he delivers narrative case studies that illuminate the personal and professional costs of language performance. From bluffing through meetings to unraveling the myth of fluency, this book invites readers to rethink what success really means when English becomes the stage—and the mask.

British Philosophy In The Seventeenth Century written by Sarah Hutton and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-04 with Philosophy categories.
Sarah Hutton presents a rich historical study of one of the most fertile periods in modern philosophy. It was in the seventeenth century that Britain's first philosophers of international stature and lasting influence emerged. Its most famous names, Hobbes and Locke, rank alongside the greatest names in the European philosophical canon. Bacon too belongs with this constellation of great thinkers, although his status as a philosopher tends to be obscured by his status as father of modern science. The seventeenth century is normally regarded as the dawn of modernity following the breakdown of the Aristotelian synthesis which had dominated intellectual life since the middle ages. In this period of transformational change, Bacon, Hobbes, Locke are acknowledged to have contributed significantly to the shape of European philosophy from their own time to the present day. But these figures did not work in isolation. Sarah Hutton places them in their intellectual context, including the social, political and religious conditions in which philosophy was practised. She treats seventeenth-century philosophy as an ongoing conversation: like all conversations, some voices will dominate, some will be more persuasive than others and there will be enormous variations in tone from the polite to polemical, matter-of-fact, intemperate. The conversation model allows voices to be heard which would otherwise be discounted. Hutton shows the importance of figures normally regarded as 'minor' players in philosophy (e.g. Herbert of Cherbury, Cudworth, More, Burthogge, Norris, Toland) as well as others who have been completely overlooked, notably female philosophers. Crucially, instead of emphasizing the break between seventeenth-century philosophy and its past, the conversation model makes it possible to trace continuities between the Renaissance and seventeenth century, across the seventeenth century and into the eighteenth century, while at the same time acknowledging the major changes which occurred.
From Formalism To Weak Form The Architecture And Philosophy Of Peter Eisenman

From Formalism To Weak Form The Architecture And Philosophy Of Peter Eisenman written by Stefano Corbo and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-04-15 with Architecture categories.
Peter Eisenman is one of the most controversial protagonists of the architectural scene, who is known as much for his theoretical essays as he is for his architecture. While much has been written about his built works and his philosophies, most books focus on one or the other aspect. By structuring this volume around the concept of form, Stefano Corbo links together Eisenman’s architecture with his theory. From Formalism to Weak Form: The Architecture and Philosophy of Peter Eisenman argues that form is the sphere of mediation between our body, our inner world and the exterior world and, as such, it enables connections to be made between philosophy and architecture. From the start of his career on, Eisenman has been deeply interested in the problem of form in architecture and has constantly challenged the classical concept of it. For him, form is not simply a cognitive tool that determines a physical structure, which discriminates all that is active from what is passive, what is inside from what is outside. He has always tried to connect his own work with the cultural manifestations of the time: firstly under the influence of Colin Rowe and his formalist studies; secondly, by re-interpreting Chomsky’s linguistic theories; in the 80’s, by collaborating with Derrida and his de-constructivist approach; more recently,by discovering Henri Bergson's idea of Time. These different moments underline different phases, different projects, different programmatic manifestos; and above all, an evolving notion of form. Taking a multi-disciplinary approach based on the intersections between architecture and philosophy, this book investigates all these definitions and, in doing so, provides new insights into and a deeper understanding of the complexity of Eisenman’s work.

Philosophical Hermeneutics And The Architecture Of Lvaro Siza written by Sally J. Faulder and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-30 with Architecture categories.
This book presents an original study of the work of Pritzker Prize-winning Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza from the perspective of architecture as an interpretation of human life. It combines philosophical hermeneutics, narrative textual description, and history and theory research to provide a rich account of Siza’s work. The book gives a detailed analysis of three of Siza’s works from this perspective: the Tidal Pool (Piscina das Marés) in Leça da Palmeira, Portugal; the Galician Centre of Contemporary Art (Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain; and the Santa Maria Church in Marco de Canaveses, Portugal. This form of analysis provides insight into the unique temporal dimension of Siza’s work, both in the memory inscribed by the structure and in how what is inscribed is revealed by degrees to those who come into contact with it. Drawing on Hans-Georg Gadamer and Paul Ricoeur, this book defines both building and inhabiting as acts of interpretation. Through employing the technique of writing architecture as a mode of phenomenological description, the book uses one form of creative configuration – narrative – to draw out the meaning inscribed in another form of creative configuration – architecture. The book contributes a unique perspective to scholarship on Siza and an in-depth study to the growing field of hermeneutics of architecture. It will be of interest to researchers and students of architecture and philosophy.

Christos Yannaras (born 1935 in Athens, Greece) has been proclaimed 'without doubt the most important living Greek Orthodox theologian' (Andrew Louth), 'contemporary Greece's greatest thinker' (Olivier Clement), 'one of the most significant Christian philosophers in Europe' (Rowan Williams). However, until recently the English-speaking scholar did not have first-hand access to the main bulk of his work: in spite of the relatively early English translation of his The Freedom of Morality (1984), most of his books appeared in English fairly recently - such as Person and Eros (2007), Orthodoxy and the West (2006), Relational Ontology (2011) or The Schism in Philosophy (2015). In this volume, chapters shall examine numerous aspects of Yannaras' contributions to Orthodox theology, philosophy and political thought, based on his relational ontology of the person, later popularised in the Anglophone sphere by John Zizioulas. From political theology to Heidegger and the philosophy of language, from Yannaras' critique of religion to the patristic grounding of the theology of the person and from Orthodoxy to the West, this volume comprises a panorama of Christos Yannaras' transdisciplinary contributions.
