Volume 3.: Look inside the book: Pluck out of the vilest of the bellowing bullies surrounding the hustings, him (of course a non-elector) most conspicuous for his insolence and brutality; imagine him suddenly or gradually become the owner of a great, or a small property, with the influence it gives him over customers, tenants, dependents: do you suppose that he will not at once, either gently or roughly, according to his temper, begin to exercise his power, (that which is so dear to the heart of man,) by dictating the exercise of the elective franchise on behalf of those political opinions which he may happen to favor? ...While the two candidates, attended by their sounding bands, and civil and smiling friends, were making their public demonstrations and canvassing the electors, as if thereby they exercised the slightest possible influence over one single voter on either side; as I have already intimated, the battle was being fought by two calm and crafty heads, in two snug and quiet little rooms in Grilston—one at the Hare and Hounds, the other at the Woodlouse Inn; of course, I mean Mr. About Samuel Warren, the Author: Warren (1852–1910), US attorney, co-author (with Brandeis) of the classic law review article The Right to Privacy (1890) ...If an internal link led you here, you may wish to change the link to point directly to the intended article.

The inspiring true story of one writer’s wild adventure into the gems and perils of the Big Island of Hawaii, a blue feather as his only talisman. Wild sea turtles, black sand beaches, UFOs, and a volcano goddess living in a lake of lava? That’s only the beginning. Upon landing, Andrew feels instantly welcome. On his first night, a new friend asks him if he’d like to go on a volcano adventure with her. “Are you serious?” he says. “Yes, of course!” After picking up some gas masks the following day, they head to Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, hiking down a secret road toward a massive red glow in the distance. By nightfall, Andrew and his new friends are standing on the edge of a huge lake of bubbling lava, radiating a warmth that feels like the sun on a cloudless day. Its beauty leaves him speechless, and they've brought food. His friends call it “extreme picnicking,” but his adventure has only just begun. Ten Thousand Hours in Paradise: Arrival is the first in a 3-volume action-memoir about the consciousness shift that happens when you embrace Hawaii. Volume 1: Arrival is a true page-turner, soaring with pure adventure, unrequited love, deadly lava, mysterious UFOs, ecotourism, and fascinating characters that you’ll never forget.

Excerpt from Ten Thousand a Year, Vol. 3 of 3 There had not been a contested election at Yatton, till the present one between Mr Delamere and Mr Titmouse, for a long series of years; its two members having been, till then, OAving to the smallness of the constituency, their comparative unanimity of political sentiment, and the dominant influence of the Yatton family, returned, pretty nearly, as a matter of course. When, therefore, quiet little Yatton (for such it was, albeit politically enlarged by the new Act) became the scene of so sudden and hot a contest as that which I am going to describe, and under such novel and exciting circumstances, it seemed in a manner quite beside itself. The walls were every where covered with glaring placards - red, blue, green, yellow, white, purple - judiciously designed to stimulate the electors into a calm and intelligent exercise of their important functions. Here are the inscriptions upon a few of them: - "Vote for Titmouse, the Man of the People!" "Titmouse and Civil and Religious Liberty!" "Titmouse and Cheap Ale!" "Titmouse and Purity of Election!" "Titmouse and Negro Emancipation!" "Vote for Titmouse and No Mistake!" "Titmouse and Quarterly Parliaments, Vote By Ballot, and Universal Suffrage!" ['Twas thus that the name of my little friend, like that of many others of his species, was attached to great public questions, somewhat after the manner of a kettle tied to a dog's tail!] About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Kuk is a settlement at c. 1600 m altitude in the upper Wahgi Valley of the Western Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea, near Mount Hagen, the provincial capital. The site forms part of the highland spine that runs for more than 2500 km from the western head of the island of New Guinea to the end of its eastern tail. Until the early 1930s, when the region was first explored by European outsiders, it was thought to be a single, uninhabited mountain chain. Instead, it was found to be a complex area of valleys and basins inhabited by large populations of people and pigs, supported by the intensive cultivation of the tropical American sweet potato on the slopes above swampy valley bottoms. With the end of World War II, the area, with others, became a focus for the development of coffee and tea plantations, of which the establishment of Kuk Research Station was a result. Large-scale drainage of the swamps produced abundant evidence in the form of stone axes and preserved wooden digging sticks and spades for their past use in cultivation. Investigations in 1966 at a tea plantation in the upper Wahgi Valley by a small team from The Australian National University yielded a date of over 2000 years ago for a wooden stick collected from the bottom of a prehistoric ditch. The establishment of Kuk Research Station a few kilometres away shortly afterwards provided an ideal opportunity for a research project.
