Em Teoria, política e história, Perry Anderson polemiza com E. P. Thompson. Analisa de modo equilibrado e rigoroso problemas teóricos e políticos presentes nas críticas lançadas por Thompson, em sua obra Miséria da teoria, contra o filósofo marxista Louis Althusser. Estava faltando publicar esta intervenção de P. Anderson para que o público brasileiro pudesse ter uma visão completa do debate. Ao publicar este livro, a Coleção Marx 21 preenche essa lacuna.
