En ese contexto dramático, Xabier Pikaza ha querido presentar el amor como alternativa democrática y revolucionaria, abierta para todos, en diálogo con los autores antiguos (de Grecia, de Israel y del Renacimiento) y con los modernos como Descartes y Kant, Hegel y Nietzsche. Pikaza ha escrito así un libro de literatura, de diálogo religioso (con la Biblia y con los grandes místicos) y de filosofía social (con aplicaciones personales y grupales), interpretando el Cántico de San Juan de la Cruz como revelación y testimonio de amor, un canto para el gozo y la terapia personal, pero también para el compromiso creador de aquellos (cristianos o no cristianos) que creen que el Amor es el único Dios verdadero. Estas cosas se sabían ya, pero no solían decirse con esta fuerza, ni en un plano de iglesia cristiana ni en un plano de sociología. Por eso es hermoso que se hayan podido decir aquí, desde la Iglesia de Jesús, dialogando con la cultura antigua y con la nueva situación de un mundo donde crece demasiado el miedo, que es falta de amor. Este es el reto, este el don y la tarea que propone Pikaza. Mientras los hombres y mujeres se enamoren se tendrá que hablar de Dios como don y compromiso de vida. Xabier Pikaza (Orozko 1941), ha estudiado filosofía, teología y filología bíblica y ha enseñado Teología Trinitaria, Historia de las religiones y Teodicea en la Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, desde 1973 hasta su destitución (2003). Le interesan los temas de diálogo religioso y cultural, en plano teórico y práctico. Ha escrito obras sobre filosofía y teoría de la religión y sobre teología bíblica. Le ha interesado desde hace tiempo el tema del amor en sus diversas perspectivas.
