Exhibition: Palazzo Zabarella, Padova, 19 September 2009-31 January 2010.

Treasuries of France, and other sources. The works of Limoges were created for important ecclesiastical and royal patrons. The wealth of enameling preserved from the Treasury of the abbey of Grandmont, just outside Limoges, is due chiefly to the Plantagenet patronage of Henry II and his queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Enamels created during their reign resonate with the elegant style of the court, and the dramatic history of Henry's monarchy is evoked by such works as the.

Jews And Magic In Medici Florence written by Edward L. Goldberg and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-01-01 with History categories.

In the seventeenth century, Florence was the splendid capital of the Medici Grand Dukedom of Tuscany. Meanwhile, the Jews in its tiny Ghetto struggled to earn a living by any possible means, especially loan-sharking, rag-picking and second-hand dealing. They were viewed as an uncanny people with rare supernatural powers, and Benedetto Blanis—a businessman and aspiring scholar from a distinguished Ghetto dynasty—sought to parlay his alleged mastery of astrology, alchemy and Kabbalah into a grand position at the Medici Court. He won the patronage of Don Giovanni dei Medici, a scion of the ruling family, and for six tumultuous years their lives were inextricably linked. Edward Goldberg reveals the dramas of daily life behind the scenes in the Pitti Palace and in the narrow byways of the Florentine Ghetto, using thousands of new documents from the Medici Granducal Archive. He shows that truth—especially historical truth—can be stranger than fiction, when viewed through the eyes of the people most immediately involved.

The exhibition aims to allow visitors to avail themselves of a selection of masterpieces from some of the world's leading museums to compare and contrast the artistic careers of two of the greatest luminaries of the Italian Renaissance ? Antonio Allegri known as Correggio (1489-1534) and Francesco Mazzola known as Parmigianino (1503-40). The formidable talent of these two artists alone placed the city of Parma in the early 16th century on an equal footing with the peninsula's other great art capitals, Rome, Florence and Venice. 0 0Correggio only travelled to Parma when he was already at the height of his career, in the late 1510s, but he was to remain in the city for the rest of his life. Some twenty of his paintings, covering his entire career, have been selected to underscore the extraordinary emotive force and expressive range that the artist put not only into his religious works but also into his mythological paintings, which were to have such a huge impact on later artists, ranging from the Carracci brothers to Watteau and even to Picasso. 0 0The exhibition 'Correggio e Parmigianino. Arte a Parma nel Ciquecento' ('Correggio and Parmigianino. Art in Parma during the 16th century') hosts such unquestioned masterpieces as the Barrymore Madonna from the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Portrait of a Lady from the State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, the Martyrdom of Four Saints from the Galleria Nazionale in Parma, the Noli Me Tangere from the Museo del Prado in Madrid, the School of Love from the National Gallery in London and the Danaë from Rome's Galleria Borghese.

Geometry Of The Passions written by Remo Bodei and has been published by University of Toronto Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-01-01 with History categories.

The passions have long been condemned as a creator of disturbance and purveyor of the temporary loss of reason, but as Remo Bodei argues in Geometry of the Passions, we must abandon the perception that order and disorder are in a constant state of collision. By means of a theoretical and historical analysis, Bodei interprets the relationship between passion and reason as a conflict between two complementary logics. Geometry of the Passions investigates the paradoxical conflict-collaboration between passions and reason, and between individual and political projects. Tracing the roles passion and reason have played throughout history, including in the political agendas of Descartes, Hobbes, and the French Jacobins, Geometry of the Passions reveals how passion and reason may be used as a vehicle for affirmation rather than self-enslavement.
