En este libro se ha pretendido ofrecer un somero acercamiento a la Literatura española del siglo XX y comienzos del XXI. La alta densidad cultural de este periodo ha forzado a enfatizar el carácter introductorio de este texto, aunque sin renunciar a una perspectiva integradora, donde las creaciones literarias se conjuguen con el pensamiento y el contexto histórico, artístico y social del momento. Para favorecer la compresión de esta época, tan abigarrada culturalmente, se ha acudido, en cada uno de los apartados que componen este estudio, a esquemas y cuadros cronológicos, así como a antologías de textos, parte fundamental de este libro, ya que completan el contenido sintético de cada uno de sus capítulos. Se ha dividido en dos partes. La primera abarca el primer tercio del siglo XX (1898-1936) . La segunda parte del libro está dedicada al estudio de la literatura de la segunda mitad del siglo XX hasta la actualidad, es decir, a partir de 1939, cuando concluye la Guerra Civil española (1936-1939) y se inicia la Dictadura del General Francisco Franco.

Nuevos espíritus contemporáneos continúa el trabajo de investigación trazado en Espíritus contemporáneos. Relaciones literarias luso-españolas entre el Modernismo y la Vanguardia (Renacimiento, 2008), que es, a su vez, heredero directo de otros libros de Antonio Sáez Delgado publicados con anterioridad en España y Portugal. Todos ellos pretenden reconstruir el mapa de las relaciones literarias entre los dos países ibéricos en el tiempo comprendido entre 1890, con la llegada del Simbolismo a Portugal, y 1936, año en que estalla la guerra civil española, con la firme convicción de que es posible leer ese tiempo apasionante como el continuum múltiple y heterogéneo de la modernidad en la Península. Por los ocho textos que constituyen este volumen desfilan los nombres de Fernando Pessoa, Teixeira de Pascoaes o Eugénio de Castro junto a los de César González-Ruano, Enrique Díez-Canedo o Mauricio Bacarisse. Modernos y antimodernos se dan la mano entre sus líneas, y conforman ese magma plural y poliforme construido, en paralelo, por los defensores y detractores del Modernismo y la Vanguardia, entendiendo la Península como un polisistema plural de flujos y reflujos estéticos. Antonio Sáez Delgado es profesor de Literatura Española y de Literaturas Ibéricas en la Universidad de Évora (Portugal). Ha dedicado varias monografías a las relaciones entre las literaturas española y portuguesa de principios del siglo XX: Órficos y ultraístas. Portugal y España en el diálogo de las primeras vanguardias literarias (1915-1925) (2000), Adriano del Valle y Fernando Pessoa: apuntes de una amistad (2002), Corredores de fondo. Literatura en la Península Ibérica a principios del siglo XX (2003), Espíritus contemporáneos. Relaciones literarias luso-españolas entre el Modernismo y la Vanguardia (2008) y Fernando Pessoa e Espanha (2011). Colaborador habitual de Babelia, suplemento de cultura del diario El País, es traductor de autores portugueses como António Lobo Antunes, Almeida Faria, Manuel António Pina, Fialho de Almeida o Teixeira de Pascoaes, y fue reconocido en 2008 con el premio de traducción Giovanni Pontiero. Aportaciones a una «poética de transición entre estados» reúne artículos de renombrados teóricos de crítica textual y de crítica genética europeos e hispanoamericanos, además de los análisis de filólogos hispánicos, también autores de ediciones críticas y/o responsables de archivos literarios. Antígonas: Writing from Latin America is the first book in the English language to approach classical reception through the study of one classical fragment as it circulates throughout Latin America. This interdisciplinary research engages comparative literature, Latin American studies, classical reception, history, feminist theory, political philosophy, and theatre history. Moira Fradinger tracks the ways in which, since the early nineteenth century, fragments of Antigone's myth and tragedy have been persistently cannibalized and ruminated throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean, quilted to local dramatic forms, revealing an archive of political thought about Latin America's heterogeneous neo-colonial histories. Antígona is consistently characterized as a national mother and, as the twentieth century advances, multiplied on stage, forming female collectives, foregrounding the urgency of systemic change or staging gender politics. Through meticulous examination of classical culture in necolonial contexts, Fradinger explores ways of reading Creole texts from the geopolitical South that disrupt the colonial reading protocols that deracinate texts or lock them into locality. By historicizing Antígona plays and interpreting them with a purpose to address specific colonial legacies, the book reveals how Antígona has ceased being Greek and instead tells stories of twentieth- and twenty-first-century Latin America. Antígonas rethinks the paradigms through which we understand the presence of ancient cultural materials in former colonial territories, while illuminating an understudied continent in Anglophone reception studies.
