Tis text has resulted from some forty years of experience during which the author has puzzled over the meaning of ore textures. Te learning process has been slow and is still incomplete. Te bemusement began directly upon leaving the academic confnes, which in retrospect lef one keen young geologist very ill-equipped to interpret the mineralising process via feld or hand lens style observation of the rocks. Enlightenment has proceeded via a series of events:- 1. Te slow process of feld observation as an industry-based mine and exploration geologist. 2. Te opportunity to visit numerous diferent styles of ore deposit both as an academic and consultant. 3. Te need to answer questions from several generations of enquiring students. 4. Te privilege of being able to conduct research. 5. Te good fortune to be associated with a few top class economic geologists who actually knew what they were doing! Professor Willard C. Lacy deserves the most credit for quietly demonstrating the value of frst principles concerning fuid channelways, combined with an ability to look properly at the t- tures. Despite rapid technological advances this skill remains fundamental both to the practi- ing exploration geologist and to the academic researcher who is interested in understanding ore forming processes. Te fve volumes comprising this presentation were originally compiled individually over a period of eleven years, and aimed to progressively guide the observer though the principles of recogn-i tion concerning infll, alteration, overprinting, and fnally to ore-related breccias.

Texture is one of the most readily experienced properties of an object for kids, and that's because we can perceive it through two senses: touch and sight. With close-up photographs revealing the details of different textures, this book describes basic distinctions, such as rough versus smooth. It also explains the qualities of matter that make up certain textures, like fur.

Plasticity And Textures written by W. Gambin and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2001-12-31 with Science categories.

The classical, phenomenological theory of plastically anisotropic materials has passed a long way: from the work of von Mises presented in 1928, and the HilI formulation given in 1948, to the latest papers on large elastic-plastic deformations of anisotropic metal sheets. A characteristic feature of this approach is a linear flow rule and a quadratic yield criterion. Mathematical simplicity of the theory is a reason of its numerous applications to the analysis of engineering structures during the onset of plastic deformations. However, such an approach is not sufficient for description of the metal forming processes, when a metal element undergoes very large plastic strains. If we take an initially isotropic piece of metal, it becomes plastically anisotropic during the forming process, and the induced anisotropy progressively increases. This fact strongly determines directions of plastic flow, and it leads to an unexpected strain localization in sheet elements. To explain the above, it is necessary to take into account a polycrystalline structure of the metal, plastic slips on slip systems of grains, crystallographic lattice rotations, and at last, a formation of textures and their evolution during the whole deformation process. In short, it is necessary to introduce the plasticity of crystals and polycrystals. The polycrystal analysis shows that, when the advanced plastic strains take place, some privileged crystallographic directions, called a crystallographic texture, occur in the material. The texture formation and evolution are a primary reason for the induced plastic anisotropy in pure metals.

This useful textbook/reference presents an accessible primer on the fundamentals of image texture analysis, as well as an introduction to the K-views model for extracting and classifying image textures. Divided into three parts, the book opens with a review of existing models and algorithms for image texture analysis, before delving into the details of the K-views model. The work then concludes with a discussion of popular deep learning methods for image texture analysis. Topics and features: provides self-test exercises in every chapter; describes the basics of image texture, texture features, and image texture classification and segmentation; examines a selection of widely-used methods for measuring and extracting texture features, and various algorithms for texture classification; explains the concepts of dimensionality reduction and sparse representation; discusses view-based approaches to classifying images; introduces the template for the K-views algorithm, as well as a range of variants of this algorithm; reviews several neural network models for deep machine learning, and presents a specific focus on convolutional neural networks. This introductory text on image texture analysis is ideally suitable for senior undergraduate and first-year graduate students of computer science, who will benefit from the numerous clarifying examples provided throughout the work.

Move beyond texture-less digital and vector art and apply the latest advances in software techniques to incorporate texture into your digital content. Delete your links to expensive texture libraries and expand your digital art skillset immeasurably by learning to create a unique and expansive collection of textures, shaders and materials that can be used customized and used for future projects. Luke Ahearn teaches artists how to create their own unique textures, shaders (the visual effects - reflections, refractions, opacity - that make textures come to life) and materials (collections of shaders that fill well together to map to a particular scene or environment). Already own Luke's Ahearn's "3D Game Textures"? Textures, Shaders and Materials offers a straight-forward, no-nonsense winning teaching style approach and provides an intermediate level treatment of textures (with all new texture graphics) with comprehensive tutorials and exercises. Includes an in-depth companion website which will include all texture, shader and materials used in the book as well as links, art files, plus valuable add-ons. Textures and shaders are the building blocks that form materials in everything from simulations and video games to architectural visualization projects and advertising. Readers will have a professional tool arsenal to create professional-looking cg artwork from scratch. Written for intermediate CG game artists but also artists who are actively creating online worlds, simulations, web based applications, architectural/vis projects, advertising.
