Economic measures and concepts like GDP, inflation, business cycles and supply chains that were created decades ago are being disrupted and altered by technology. These changes affect asset values, interest rates, stock valuations, barriers to entry, as well as regression and correlation analysis. That Doesn’t Work Anymore discusses how to adapt traditional data to these changes and outlines ways to use newer and better tools that help you make good investment and business decisions. The book's short pragmatic chapters grouped by topic with research and real-life anecdotes delve into how technological and societal developments have changed the meaning and value of traditional economic data-points, predictive tools, and business concepts. Robert S. Kricheff provides specifics on new and more valuable data sources as well as better methods for applying the information to investing, business, and even your career.

In this groundbreaking book, Elizabeth Perle McKenna challenges the outdated system of work for professional women, and encourages readers to re-examine work as their sole identities, and, if they are unhappy, to allow room for their Lives. For every worn-out, emotionally depleted female professional who has ever sighed, "there has got to be a better way," here is the revolutionary book by Elizabeth Perle McKenna--herself a former publishing executive--that explores women's relationship with work. For decades, women have succeeded at traditional male jobs, but now, deep in the second stage of the feminist movement, they want lives that are integrated and whole. Based on original research and containing hundreds of interviews with prominent working women, this book exposes the inherent conflict between the way work traditionally is structured and rewarded, and what women desire and value in their lives. More important, it suggests new ways for women to identify their values, reclaim their identities, and define success on their own terms. Most importantly, this is not just another book about working mothers. Liz Perle McKenna deconstructs the myth that women can have it all, and shows that they risk true happiness until they give up that impossible ideal. The author's focus extends to every working woman who will most likely face a life-altering situation at some point in her career and will need to redefine what success means to her. Any woman who has been working for more than a few years will identify strongly with the issues raised here, and will be rewarded by the insights she gleans from this vital book.

Less than half of all employees today are satisfied with their jobs. After years of meager raises and mass layoffs, employees do not believe employers care about them beyond their utility as human resources. Corporate America has done little to reverse the precipitous decline in employee morale. Most companies deny it exists in their own organizations. Others have tried to improve morale with fancy mission statements, renominating employees as team-members, making less look like more, and balancing work and life, as if those were two different experiences. None of these solutions have been effective. In this fascinating, well-researched book, two experienced labor lawyers reveal why work isn't working anymore for most employees, how and why companies have failed to reverse the decline in employee satisfaction and workplace happiness by relegating the entire workplace experience to economics, and how managers and supervisors can make a positive difference by creating meaningful relationships with their employees using the authors' Credible Connections relationship-based management model.

"...takes the lid off the difficult career questions we all face, and provides pointed advice for finding healthy, empowering work."-Steve Woodruff, Author, Clarity Wins The Great Resignation, the Great Reshuffling, and Quiet Quitting-clearly something is not right at work. Rates of stress, anxiety, and depression were skyrocketing before the COVID-19 pandemic. Tied to their smartphones 24/7, many people were overworking, measuring their self-worth and value by how busy they were. They compared their lives to the filtered lives of peers on social media. They worked in corporate cultures that didn't support employees, and they undervalued the importance of their own mental and physical health. During the pandemic's height in 2020, many people were forced to stay home. Some found themselves without a job at all; others had to learn to do their jobs remotely. It was during this "down time" that many people realized that busyness, overworking, overconsumption, avoidance, and numbing weren't helping. In fact, the whole approach was batshit crazy. In This Isn't Working! Evolving the Way We Work to Decrease Stress, Anxiety, and Depression, career transition expert Catherine Altman Morgan explains why we shouldn't be striving to get back to "normal," because normal wasn't all that great. Instead, we need to EVOLVE. Through her company, Point A to Point B Transitions Inc., Catherine has worked with many clients who suffer with physical and mental health issues caused by work-related stress. In this book she offers techniques and strategies to rethink how we live and work and start feeling better almost immediately. "I need this book. You might too! If you've felt a bit dented, here's the fix!" -Chris Brogan, Chief of Staff, Appfire.com

It's normal for westerners to travel in different worlds from their own and then write about their experiences. It's a lot less common to come across someone from another world who describes what they have experienced in our world. We westerners are centered in our cultural reality and take it for granted while that of others is only considered in a peripheral way. When this viewpoint is shattered the egocentric western outlook is deeply disturbed. So, almost a century ago the German poet Enrich Sheurmann was the first, followed by millions, to delight in the reminiscences of the Tuavian Chief, who, on his return to Samoa described to his people the Westerner, the Papalagi, and how he lives. That account is certainly one that shouldn’t be forgotten on the bookshelf as having already been read. In its simplicity and frankness it is ready at any moment to shine a blessed ray of light on the clouded heart of western man. But the time of Tuavii is already long gone. The Papalagi has not stopped his mad race and his world meantime has changed. A descendant of Tuavii, Apineru, chief of a small community left his little island for about a year travelling to the west in the seventies. In Papalagi Act II, Apineru while sitting on his mat, describes what he has seen and experienced to his family members and other islanders that visit him of evenings in his hut. What is the everyday life of a westerner, what are progress, television and freedom to a man, seemingly uncultured, yet with only the good and well-being of his virgin island at heart? His style follows no logic, there’s no false pretence in his criticisms and the impressions that he communicates and the images that he describes do not follow any classical line of analysis that the Papalagi are used to. Apineru cuts through all the usual paradigms simply with the freshness of his sentiment, in the poetry and magic of his singular imagination, provoking us to smile and look beyond the daily shortcomings of so called modern life. Available in German, French and Italian. The original version of the Papalagi edited by Erich Sheurmann has been published in English by Legacy Editions in 1997, under the title Tuiavii's way. The text (no copyright) can be read also here http://www.nonduality.com/papalagi.htmIndex "The Papalagi poisons himself day after day, word after word, action after action, mouthful after mouthful. He doesn’t die straight away as was about to happen to me, but a bit by bit, day after day. In the end, he is dead even without realizing it. But now too much time has passed from the moment that the poisoning has begun and so the dead Papalagi doesn’t remember anything of how life was at the beginning. So the Papalagi behaves like the protagonist of that story that a village chief told me when he visited our island on the day I got married. It is told that a certain Ira left his island where he had his father, mother, brothers and sisters to look for pearls on other islands even though you could find marvellous pearls in the sea around his. He reached another island in his canoe and stayed there for a while finding pearls, but a bit smaller than those found around his. So he left even that island to go to another, then another again, finding pearls but always smaller. He arrived at a sixth island, and here the pearls were so small that you could hardly see them. One morning he took his canoe out and reached a seventh island. He landed and here he met some men and women to whom he immediately tried to sell his merchandise. Straightaway the islanders recognized him as the brother who had left a long time before, who, from a seeker of precious pearls, had transformed into a collector of empty shells. In fact he had returned to the island from which he had begun his adventure, but he wasn’t aware of it..." This book reveals untold living history of thirty ethnic German survivors who finally broke their silence and talked about their heart-breaking experiences of forced deportation, expulsion, and flight during WWII and its aftermath. They were deported from their homes in Romania and Yugoslavia; expelled from their homes in Czechoslovakia; and had to flee from their homes in Poland and all the Eastern provinces of Germany, These ethnic German survivors tell of their weeks-long treacherous over-crowded cattle-train transports, back-breaking work in forced labor camps, starvation and homelessness during bitter cold winters, witnessing mass rapes and beatings to death. They are among the fifteen million Germans who were expelled from their homes in East-Central Europe during the largest forced mass migration of the twentieth century. These now aged survivors, who experienced humanities darkest side but have no malice toward their perpetrators, exemplify the unbreakable and indelible human spirit.
