We introduce the absolute functional calculus for sectorial operators. This notion is stronger than the common holomorphic functional calculus. We are able to improve a key theorem related to the maximal regularity problem and hence demonstrate the power and usefulness of our new concept. In trying to characterize spaces where sectorial operators have absolute calculus, we find that certain real interpolation spaces play a central role. We are then extending various known results in this setting. The idea of unifying theorems about sectorial operators on real interpolation spaces permeates our work and opens paths for future research on this subject.

This book contains a systematic and partly axiomatic treatment of the holomorphic functional calculus for unbounded sectorial operators. The account is generic so that it can be used to construct and interrelate holomorphic functional calculi for other types of unbounded operators. Particularly, an elegant unified approach to holomorphic semigroups is obtained. The last chapter describes applications to PDE, evolution equations and approximation theory as well as the connection with harmonic analysis.

This book is the first part of a two volume anthology comprising a selection of 49 articles that illustrate the depth, breadth and scope of Nigel Kalton’s research. Each article is accompanied by comments from an expert on the respective topic, which serves to situate the article in its proper context, to successfully link past, present and hopefully future developments of the theory, and to help readers grasp the extent of Kalton’s accomplishments. Kalton’s work represents a bridge to the mathematics of tomorrow, and this book will help readers to cross it. Nigel Kalton (1946-2010) was an extraordinary mathematician who made major contributions to an amazingly diverse range of fields over the course of his career.

This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. In turn, the next two chapters provide a detailed treatment of the theory of R-boundedness and Banach space valued square functions developed over the last 20 years. In the last chapter, this content is applied to develop the holomorphic functional calculus of sectorial and bi-sectorial operators in Banach spaces. Given its breadth of coverage, this book will be an invaluable reference to graduate students and researchers interested in functional analysis, harmonic analysis, spectral theory, stochastic analysis, and the operator-theoretic approach to deterministic and stochastic evolution equations.

In recent years there has been a surge of profound new developments in various aspects of analysis whose connecting thread is the use of Banach space methods. Indeed, many problems seemingly far from the classical geometry of Banach spaces have been solved using Banach space techniques. This volume contains papers by participants of the conference "Banach Spaces and their Applications in Analysis", held in May 2006 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in honor of Nigel Kalton's 60th birthday. In addition to research articles contributed by participants, the volume includes invited expository articles by principal speakers of the conference, who are leaders in their areas. These articles present overviews of new developments in each of the conference's main areas of emphasis, namely nonlinear theory, isomorphic theory of Banach spaces including connections with combinatorics and set theory, algebraic and homological methods in Banach spaces, approximation theory and algorithms in Banach spaces. This volume also contains an expository article about the deep and broad mathematical work of Nigel Kalton, written by his long time collaborator, Gilles Godefroy. Godefroy's article, and in fact the entire volume, illustrates the power and versatility of applications of Banach space methods and underlying connections between seemingly distant areas of analysis.

This book, which is based on several courses of lectures given by the author at the Independent University of Moscow, is devoted to Sobolev-type spaces and boundary value problems for linear elliptic partial differential equations. Its main focus is on problems in non-smooth (Lipschitz) domains for strongly elliptic systems. The author, who is a prominent expert in the theory of linear partial differential equations, spectral theory and pseudodifferential operators, has included his own very recent findings in the present book. The book is well suited as a modern graduate textbook, utilizing a thorough and clear format that strikes a good balance between the choice of material and the style of exposition. It can be used both as an introduction to recent advances in elliptic equations and boundary value problems and as a valuable survey and reference work. It also includes a good deal of new and extremely useful material not available in standard textbooks to date. Graduate and post-graduate students, as well as specialists working in the fields of partial differential equations, functional analysis, operator theory and mathematical physics will find this book particularly valuable.

Square Roots Of Elliptic Systems In Locally Uniform Domains written by Sebastian Bechtel and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-09 with Mathematics categories.
This book establishes a comprehensive theory to treat square roots of elliptic systems incorporating mixed boundary conditions under minimal geometric assumptions. To lay the groundwork, the text begins by introducing the geometry of locally uniform domains and establishes theory for function spaces on locally uniform domains, including interpolation theory and extension operators. In these introductory parts, fundamental knowledge on function spaces, interpolation theory and geometric measure theory and fractional dimensions are recalled, making the main content of the book easier to comprehend. The centerpiece of the book is the solution to Kato's square root problem on locally uniform domains. The Kato result is complemented by corresponding Lp bounds in natural intervals of integrability parameters. This book will be useful to researchers in harmonic analysis, functional analysis and related areas.
