Anthony Travellor, and the five other members of the Trailblazer team, are on their way to the moon. They are traveling in a modified ship, that wasn't designed to carry people. They have a limited time frame to get there, or risk running out of air. Their mission, to establish the first permanent operational base on the moon, is a secret, not known even to the U.S. Congress. The idea was first conceived in 1981, before the United States had the technology to accomplish the task. Now, on the day of the launch, the technology is still barely adequate to accomplish the mission. Preparations have been ongoing, and supplies have been landed on the moon's surface, waiting for the team's arrival. The problem they face is, even if they get there alive, there is no way for them to get back to the Earth. The breathable air in the ship, and their space suits, would not last long enough for the return trip - it's a one way ticket. Then, there is the challenge of constructing the shelter that will keep them alive, and doing so before the air in their suits runs out. Why would these explorers risk their lives to accomplish this mission? Each has their own reasons. They all see the need, and understand that risks are necessary when reaching for the stars. Patriotism, and the will to sacrifice for the security of their country, is part of it. Believing that if they don't do the job, no on else will, is another part. Their need for excitement and danger is also a part. To attempt what they are attempting, while understanding the potential for their own demise, defines each one of them as part of the rare breed willing to look the Grim Reaper in the eye, and stare him down. The Trailblazer team expected to put their lives at risk, but they didn't expect that someone else was already there, waiting for them. This unexpected, chance meeting with people from another galaxy would change their lives, as well as the future of the Earth.

Extraordinary Explorers written by Rebecca Stefoff and has been published by Oxford University Press, USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-09-01 with History categories.

The adventures of explorers are some of the most dramatic and exciting stories in history. Most young readers know about the "big names" in exploration--Columbus, Magellan, Da Gama, and so on. But in this series, Rebecca Stefoff not only offers new perspectives on these oldtimers, she also exposes her readers to some of the travelers and explorers who do not appear in the traditional history books. Consequently, the books in the series may occasionally wander off the highroad of history to follow the fascinating byways of adventure and anecdote as they span all parts of the world in over 2,000 years. The result is a wide-ranging yet coherent picture of geographical discovery, and a knowledge of dozens of extraordinary men and women whose journeys of discovery have reflected and shaped our view of the world. Each book focuses on one extraordinary aspect of exploration: Accidental Explorers Explorers who set out to look for one thing but found something else entirely, or who made marvelous discoveries by accident or sheer luck--Jedediah Smith, who pioneered the overland crossing to California, Henry Morton Stanley, the newspaperman who explored central Africa, and others more obscure but no less colorful, such as Chang Ch'ien, a kidnapped Chinese diplomat who involuntarily explored much of Asia in the 2nd century B.C. (507685-0) Women of the World Eight women whose heroic journeys added to the world's geographic knowledge: Ida Pfeiffer, an 19th century women with "an insatiable desire to travel" who circled the world--twice, Fanny Bullock Workman, the world's foremost woman moutaineer, an early feminist, and one of the most controversial figures in modern geography, and Alexandra David-Neel, the first western woman to enter Lhasa, the Forbidden City of Tibet. (507688-5) Scientific Explorers Scientific explorations on land, at sea, and in space--Captain James Cook's astronomical observations, the Great U.S. Exploring Expedition of the 1830s, the mapping expeditions and geological surveys of the American West by Fremont and others, and many more exciting and dramatic discoveries that have changed the way we view the world (507725-3)

From Amazon bestselling author Craig Briggs, The Journey continues with book ten in the series, THE ACCIDENTAL EXPLORER. Craig and Melanie enjoy the best of both worlds: spring, summer, and autumn in beautiful Galicia and winter on the Costa del Sol. During their time in Andalucía, they revisit some old haunts and explore new ones. He falls in love with the magic of Málaga and the charm of Estepona's old town, but questions Ronda's links to literary greats. On their return to Galicia, work in the vineyards requires his attention. Their passion for food and love of wine flow through Craig's narrative like a meandering waterway. Accompanying these irresistible flavours is an eclectic mix of music from Galician bagpipes to Portuguese fado and Spanish rock icons of the 1990s. Bumps in the road keep their feet on the ground, and a lapse in concentration results in an unwanted bill. When a slapdash landlord raises their concerns of a potential property scam, they hold their nerve, but nothing prepares them for Nature's assault on their precious grapes. Craig's flowing writing takes us on an unforgettable journey through Galicia and beyond. His keen observations and comedic prose breathe new life into history and introduces us to the characters preserving this rich culture for future generations.

A New Exploration Of Hegel S Dialectics Ii written by Deng Xiaomang and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-05-10 with Philosophy categories.

Focusing on the self-negation and reflective forms of Hegel's dialectics, and representing the spirit of nous and logos respectively, this volume explores core functions in the subjectivity, free spirit and practicality of Hegelian dialectics. As the second volume of a three-volume set that gives insights into Hegel's dialectics and thereby his overall philosophical thought, the book proposes and discusses the soul and form of Hegelian dialectics. As the soul of Hegel's dialectics, which represents the spirit of nous, self-negation plays a fundamental role in Hegel's philosophy, and all other dialectical laws derive from this core principle, with which the subjectivity and free spirit of Hegel's dialectics take shape along with their essential practicality. The form of expression belonging to this negative dialectic as such is the reflective mode of thinking that represents the spirit of logos, and it is this reflective mode of thinking that follows the logical procedure of "reflecting on reflection," rendering the progression of Hegel's dialectical subject lawful, rational and logical. The title will appeal to scholars and students interested in Hegel's and Marx's philosophy, German classical philosophy and Western philosophy.

Explorers Of The Nile written by Tim Jeal and has been published by Faber & Faber this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-13 with Travel categories.

Between 1856 and 1876, five explorers, all British, took on the seemingly impossible task of discovering the source of the White Nile. Showing exceptional courage and extraordinary resilience, Richard Burton, John Hanning Speke, Samuel Baker, David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley risked their lives and their reputations in the name of this quest. They journeyed through East and Central Africa into unmapped territory, discovered the great lakesTanganyika and Victoria, navigated the upper Nile and the Congo, and suffered the ravages of flesh-eating ulcers, malaria and deep spear wounds. Using new research, Tim Jeal tells the story of these great expeditions, while also examining the tragic consequences which the Nile search has had on Uganda and Sudan to this day. Explorers of the Nile is a gripping adventure story with an arresting analysis of Britain's imperial past and the Scramble for Africa.
