The story of Kermit the Newf at the library is inspired by a real life, very large, black and white Newfoundland dog. Kermit has had many adventures. While waiting for his grandma to pick him up in her van, he thinks about some of the ones he likes the most. Not knowing where she will take him today, he is so happy when they get to his favorite place in the whole world, the Library. In this adventure Kermit helps a young boy overcome his shyness and fear of dogs. The boy is surprised at the unusual site of a dog in the library. He is intrigued to see that children are actually sitting with and reading to a huge dog that doesn't bite them or bark at them. He sees the children calmly reading to the big dog, petting him and leaning against him. He can't imagine that they are not as afraid as he is. Over several weeks he watches and waits for something bad to happen. It never does. The children seem very happy to be with Kermit and give him treats when they finish reading. Each child then gets a book to keep so they can either start or add to their own home library. These events peak his interest more and more, until he finally finds the courage to ask if he can read to the big dog too. When he does read to Kermit and nothing bad happens to him, he finds himself being as relaxed as all the other children. His fear of dogs has vanished. He has a new big, black and white, fluffy friend.

Hallucinations written by Oliver Sacks and has been published by Pan Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-11-08 with Literary Collections categories.

Have you ever seen something that wasn't really there? Heard someone call your name in an empty house? Sensed someone following you and turned around to find nothing? Hallucinations don't belong wholly to the insane. Much more commonly, they are linked to sensory deprivation, intoxication, illness, or injury. In some conditions, hallucinations can lead to religious epiphanies or even the feeling of leaving one's own body. Humans have always sought such life-changing visions, and for thousands of years have used hallucinogenic compounds to achieve them. In Hallucinations, with his usual elegance, curiosity, and compassion, Dr Oliver Sacks weaves together stories of his patients and of his own mind-altering experiences to illuminate what hallucinations tell us about the organization and structure of our brains, how they have influenced every culture's folklore and art, and why the potential for hallucination is present in us all, a vital part of the human condition.

Standards For The English Language Arts written by National Council of Teachers of English and has been published by National Council of Teachers of English (Ncte) this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Education categories.

This book describes standards for the English language arts and defines what K-12 students should know about language and be able to do with language. The book presents the current consensus among literacy teachers and researchers about what students should learn in the English language arts--reading, writing, listening, speaking, viewing, and visually representing. The first chapter of the book (Setting Standards in the English Language Arts) addresses defining the standards and the need for standards. The second chapter (Perspectives Informing the English Language Arts Standards) discusses the content, purpose, development, and context of the standards. The third chapter presents the 12 standards in detail. The fourth chapter (Standards in the Classroom) presents elementary, middle-school, and high-school vignettes which illustrate how the standards might be implemented in the classroom. The book concludes that these standards represent not an end but a beginning--a starting point for discussion and action. A glossary (containing more than 100 terms), a list of participants, a history of the standards project, an overview of standards projects, state and international English language arts standards, a 115-item annotated list of resources for teachers, and a comment form are attached.
