**The Algorithm Effect Unveiling the Code that Shapes Our Lives** In a world run by unseen forces, The Algorithm Effect exposes the invisible architects of choice guiding our every move. In this gripping exploration, delve into how algorithms dictate our decisions from online shopping to the news we consume, painting a comprehensive portrait of their pervasive reach. From the initial chapters, you'll learn how algorithms weave into the fabric of everyday life, transitioning seamlessly from abstract concepts to concrete influences in our society. Discover the silent power of data as it becomes the currency in this new age—fueling the algorithms that cater to personal preferences yet encroach upon privacy and ethics in profound ways. Transit through the marketplace, where personalized ads and tailored suggestions are more than just clever marketing tools. Explore the strategic deployment of pricing algorithms, altering the dynamics of consumerism with every click. Meanwhile, in the realm of social media, uncover the subtle sway of algorithmic curation that shapes public opinion, encourages echo chambers, and battles misinformation. The impact of these digital pulsars reaches our education systems, healthcare, and workplaces, raising questions of ethics, fairness, and bias. Whether diagnosing illnesses or deciding who gets the job, algorithms promise efficiency but demand our vigilance. The Algorithm Effect also casts a spotlight on cultural influence—how our tastes in music and film are sculpted by data-driven selections, while the financial sector sees algorithms dictating trading patterns and credit scores. Unravel the intricacies of algorithmic decision-making that challenge the balance of control between human oversight and machine automation. As you navigate these chapters, gain insights into advocating for awareness, fostering algorithmic literacy, and embracing a future where we coexist with these digital titans. The Algorithm Effect is not just a book; it’s an invitation to understand, question, and shape the algorithmic society of tomorrow. Uncover the blueprint behind our daily choices and become empowered to influence the future of algorithmic governance.

How Algorithms Create And Prevent Fake News written by Noah Giansiracusa and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with categories.

From deepfakes to GPT-3, deep learning is now powering a new assault on our ability to tell what's real and what's not, bringing a whole new algorithmic side to fake news. On the other hand, remarkable methods are being developed to help automate fact-checking and the detection of fake news and doctored media. Success in the modern business world requires you to understand these algorithmic currents, and to recognize the strengths, limits, and impacts of deep learning--especially when it comes to discerning the truth and differentiating fact from fiction. This book tells the stories of this algorithmic battle for the truth and how it impacts individuals and society at large. In doing so, it weaves together the human stories and what's at stake here, a simplified technical background on how these algorithms work, and an accessible survey of the research literature exploring these various topics. How Algorithms Create and Prevent Fake News is an accessible, broad account of the various ways that data-driven algorithms have been distorting reality and rendering the truth harder to grasp. From news aggregators to Google searches to YouTube recommendations to Facebook news feeds, the way we obtain information today is filtered through the lens of tech giant algorithms. The way data is collected, labelled, and stored has a big impact on the machine learning algorithms that are trained on it, and this is a main source of algorithmic bias - which gets amplified in harmful data feedback loops. Don't be afraid: with this book you'll see the remedies and technical solutions that are being applied to oppose these harmful trends. There is hope. .

The vast circulations of mobile devices, sensors and data mean that the social world is now defined by a complex interweaving of human and machine agency. Key to this is the growing power of algorithms – the decision-making parts of code – in our software dense and data rich environments. Algorithms can shape how we are retreated, what we know, who we connect with and what we encounter, and they present us with some important questions about how society operates and how we understand it. This book offers a series of concepts, approaches and ideas for understanding the relations between algorithms and power. Each chapter provides a unique perspective on the integration of algorithms into the social world. As such, this book directly tackles some of the most important questions facing the social sciences today. This book was originally published as a special issue of Information, Communication & Society.

This volume contains the papers presented at RECOMB 2010: the 14th Annual International Conference on Research in Computational Molecular Biology held in Lisbon, Portugal, during April 25–28, 2010. The RECOMB conference series was started in 1997 by Sorin Istrail, Pavel Pevzner, and Michael Waterman. RECOMB 2010 was hosted by INESC-ID and Instituto Superior Tecnico, or- nized by a committee chaired by Arlindo Oliveira and took place at the Int- national Fair of Lisbon Meeting Centre. This year, 36 papers were accepted for presentation out of 176 submissions. The papers presented were selected by the Program Committee (PC) assisted by a number of external reviewers. Each paper was reviewed by three members of the PC, or by external reviewers, and there was an extensive Web-based discussion over a period of two weeks, leading to the ?nal decisions. RECOMB 2010 also introduced a Highlights Track, in which six additional presentations by senior authors were chosen from papers published in 2009. The RECOMB conferenceseriesiscloselyassociatedwiththeJournalofComputational Biology, which traditionally publishes special issues devoted to presenting full versions of selected conference papers.

Electronics, communication and networks coexist, and it is not possible to conceive of our current society without them. Within the next decade we will probably see the consolidation of 6G-based technology, accompanied by many compatible devices, and fiber-optic is already an advanced technology with many applications. This book presents the proceedings of CECNet 2022, the 12th International Conference on Electronics, Communications and Networks, held as a virtual event with no face-to-face participation in Xiamen, China, from 4 to 7 November 2022. CECNet is held annually, and covers many interrelated groups of topics such as electronics technology, communication engineering and technology, wireless communications engineering and technology and computer engineering and technology. This year the conference committee received 313 submissions. All papers were carefully reviewed by program committee members, taking into consideration the breadth and depth of research topics falling within the scope of the conference, and after further discussion, 79 papers were selected for presentation at the conference and for publication in this book. This represents an acceptance rate of about 25%. The book offers an overview of the latest research and developments in these rapidly evolving fields, and will be of interest to all those working with electronics, communication and networks.
