Twentieth Century Multiplicity written by Daniel H. Borus and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12 with History categories.

The book describes the ways in which American thinkers and artists in the first two decades of the twentieth century challenged notions that a single principle explained all relevant phenomena, opting instead for a pluralistic world in which many truths, goods, and beauties coexisted. It argues that the bracketing of the idea that all knowledge was integrated allowed for a new appreciation of the importance of context and contingency.

Information Multiplicity written by John Johnston and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-05-08 with Computers categories.

In Information Multiplicity, Johnston describes how fractalized realism has redefined thought itself - from the High Modernist "stream of consciousness" into what the machine philosopher Daniel Dennett refers to as "multiple drafts" or "circuits" operating concurrently in the human brain. In a series of close readings, Johnston traces how such a viral influx of information into human consciousness has been replicated in works by Thomas Pynchon (Gravity's Rainbow and Vineland), Joseph McElroy (Lookout Cartridge), William Gaddis (JR), Don DeLillo (Libra), and William Gibson (Neuromancer).

Christopher Shields investigates and evaluates Aristotle's approach to questions about homonymy, characterizing the metaphysical and semantic commitments necessary to establish the homonymy of a given concept. Then, in a series of case-studies, Shields examines in detail some of Aristotle's principal applications of homonymy - to the body, sameness and oneness, life, goodness, and being. Shields's aim is not only to give a fuller understanding of Aristotle's methodology and to illuminate his specific doctrines in a variety of areas, but to show that this methodology remains fruitful today.

Ambiguity Tension And Multiplicity In Deutero Isaiah written by Hyun Chul Paul Kim and has been published by Peter Lang Incorporated, International Academic Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Bible categories.

Does Isaiah 40-55 convey a unified message on the relationship between Israel and the nations? This book argues that Isaiah 40-55 contains the texts and concepts of both universalism and particularism. Examining four select texts (42:1-13; 44:24-45:8; 49:22-26; 51:1-8) with special attention given to their textuality, intertextuality, and infratextuality (conceptuality), Hyun Chul Paul Kim suggests the existence of both unified conceptuality and diverse signifiers. Through synchronic and diachronic analyses, this work uncovers the intentional ambiguity, tension, and multiplicity on the concept of the servant's identity as well as other key concepts, how these diverse concepts can be read with respect to authorial intention, and what the implications are for the ongoing debates on the unity and diversity of the book of Isaiah.

The Multiplicity Of Interpreted Worlds written by Donald A. Crosby and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-02-23 with Philosophy categories.

In The Multiplicity of Interpreted Worlds: Inner and Outer Perspectives, Donald A. Crosby examines whether there is such a thing as an uninterpreted, unitary, in-itself world or if all claims about the world—whether scientific historical, cultural, communal, or individual—are necessarily partial and limited. If the latter is so, then ultimately many different worlds call for recognition, ranging in scope and reliability, but none of them—including those of the most allegedly "hard" science—either are or can be free of the limitations, disagreements, and fallibilities among even the most qualified experts in a particular field of investigation. The inward and the outward, the subjective and the objective, are thus crucially dependent on one another, and neither is finally intelligible as such apart from the other. Crosby argues that there is no such thing as a completely objective view of the world. This observation is pertinent to our treatment of other natural beings and their ecological domains because it makes us aware that they too have different relations to and perspectives on their environments or worlds in a manner similar to our own irreducibly different outlooks on such worlds from within.
