Excerpt from The Antiquities of England and Wales, Vol. 7 Opposite the entrance'into this court, or on the north tide, is the Great Hall, which meatures 20 yards in length from Catt to weft; and twelve in depth from north to fouth. ON the eatt tide is ahandtome chapel, to which there was an atcent by tome tteps, now demolithed or taken away. It Was arched, and ribbed with pointed, interteeting arches. Beneath this chapel is a kind of vault; its oor had marks of being lately digged up. This, it teems, was done in fearch of treature, there being a tradition, that in the troubletome times much money was hidden here; and a tale is handed about, that a large brats mortar full of gold was found not many years ago. There is a communication round the buildings of this inner court by a gallery of two yards broad. In the centerof the area was a draw - well, now filled up with ttones.
