Sometimes when one sees people going about shivering on a cold day... one thinks how good it would be for most of them just to strip then and there, and run, run till they were red hot-mastering the cold that way.-from "Health a Conquest"Bracingly convivial and full of a spunky energy, this early motivational book, first published in 1904, is a spiritual but nonreligious call to creative arms to explore the possibilities of human consciousness to conceive and invent and brings us up to our physical and intellectual potential. Poet and activist Carpenter traveled the 19th-century English countryside delivering enthusiastic lectures criticizing the social conventions of his time, some of which are included in this series of essays, and his cry to abandon the repressive habits that prevent us from being fully ourselves continues to ring true today.British writer EDWARD CARPENTER (1844-1929) was a dedicated social reformer and active in the late 19th-century Arts and Crafts movement. Educated at Cambridge, he is remembered for his unrhymed verse, including 1883's Towards Democracy. Among his works are Civilization: Its Cause and Cure, And Other Essays (1889) and Love's Coming of Age (1896).

Excerpt from The Art of Creation: Essays on the Self and Its Powers We seem to be arriving at a time when, with the circling of our knowledge of the globe, a great synthesis of all human thought on the ancient and ever-engrossing problem of Creation is quite naturally and inevitably taking shape. This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1904 edition. Excerpt: ... THE ART OF CREATION PRELIMINARY Related Motion seems to be, as suggested by the words Attraction and Repulsion, Gravitation, Chemical Affinity, and so forth, the ground-fact of inorganic Nature. And it seems also to be the ground and foundation of Life. The protoplasmic jelly moves towards or away from substances in its neighborhood, and this appears to be its fundamental property. The most primitive cellular organisms act in the same way. Some seek light, others flee from it. Paramecium is drawn towards slightly acid substances, and flies from alkalies. Actynophrys is attracted by starch; and so on.1 There appears to be a kind of 'choice' or elective affinity; and the learned are divided on the subject into two schools--those who, like Binet, see in these movements of protozoa the germinal characteristics of human intelligence, and those who class them as "merely chemical" and automatic reactions. 1 See Th. Ribot, "Psychology of the Emotions," Contemporary Science Series, p. 4. Also H. S. Jennings, " Psychology of a Protozoan," American Journal of Psychology, vol. x. It is not our business here to draw the line of division. It is sufficient to see that on the very lowest rung of the ladder of life, and at a point where it is difficult to distinguish its laws from those of chemistry, such words as we are forced to use--words like Attraction, Repulsion, Affinity --have a double meaning, covering both material and mental, external and internal, affections. Even the word Motion itself passes easily into E-motion. And modern psychology and physiology have made it abundantly clear that every feeling or emotion in the mind means motion of some kind in the tissues or fluids of the body. Some of our highest and most complex emotions take the...

The Art Of Co Creation written by Bryan R. Rill and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-20 with Education categories.

This book illustrates how to design and implement co-creation, a powerful form of collective creativity that harnesses the potential of teams and can generate breakthrough insights. Skilled leaders and facilitators can utilize this approach to unleash the creative potential of their organizations. Drawing from years of applied research, the authors bring together insights from the fields of design and organizational development into an evocative and pragmatic “how-to” guidebook. Taking a human-centred rather than process oriented perspective, the book argues that experience design separates true co-creation from other forms of collective efforts and design thinking. Collective moments of creative insight emerge from the space between, an experience of flow and synchronicity from which new ideas spring forth. How to create and hold this space is the secret to the art of co-creation. Collective breakthroughs require stakeholders to undergo a journey from the world of their existing expertise into spaces of new potential. It requires leaders moving from a position of dominating space to holding the space for others, and developing core capacities such as empathy and awareness so that teams can engage each other co-creatively. This book uncovers the secrets of this journey, enabling process designers to develop more effective programs.
