Since the late 1980s, the boundaries between the β€˜musicologies’ have become increasingly blurred. Most notably, a growing number of musicologists have become interested in the ideas and methodologies of ethnomusicology, and in particular, in applying one of the central methodological tools of ethnomusicology – ethnography – to the study of Western β€˜art’ music, a tradition which had previously been studied primarily through scores, recordings and other historical sources. Alongside this, since the 1970s a small number of ethnomusicologists have also written about Western art music, thus complicating the idea of ethnomusicology as the study of β€˜other’ music. Indeed, there has been a growth in this area of scholarship in recent years. Approaching western art music through the perspectives of ethnomusicology can offer new and enriching insights to the study of this musical tradition, as shown in the writings presented in this book. The current volume is the first collection of essays on this topic and includes work by authors from a range of musicological and ethnomusicological backgrounds, exploring a variety of issues including music in orchestral outreach programmes, new audiences for classical music concerts, music and conflict transformation, ethnographic study of the rehearsal process, and the politics of a high-profile music festival. This book was originally published as a special issue of Ethnomusicology Forum.

""System Design Basics"" offers a comprehensive exploration of creating robust, scalable software systems capable of serving millions of users while maintaining optimal performance. The book uniquely bridges theoretical knowledge with practical implementation, structuring its approach around three fundamental pillars: architectural patterns, scalability principles, and distributed systems fundamentals. Through a careful progression from basic concepts to advanced implementations, it makes complex architectural patterns accessible to developers at all experience levels. The book's journey begins with essential distributed systems concepts and the CAP theorem, before advancing through scalability patterns and data management approaches. It examines real-world applications through detailed case studies from major technology companies, providing concrete examples rather than purely theoretical discussions. Particularly valuable are its practical insights into designing e-commerce platforms and social media networks, complemented by exercises and design problems that reinforce learning through hands-on application. What sets this guide apart is its systematic approach to balancing technical requirements with business objectives, supported by implementation examples and trade-off analyses. The content integrates principles from multiple disciplines, including database management and cloud computing, while maintaining accessibility through clear explanations and architectural diagrams. For software engineers and system architects, it serves both as a comprehensive learning resource and a practical reference guide, addressing current trends while emphasizing timeless design principles that remain relevant regardless of specific technologies.

Orchestration written by James Reilly and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021 with Business & Economics categories.

"Orchestration explores the origins, operations, and effectiveness of China's distinctive 'orchestration' approach to economic statecraft. It describes how China engages in economic statecraft, explains why China uses this approach, and identifies when Beijing's efforts are most effective. The first two chapters trace how China's unique historical experiences and complex political-economic structures led to Beijing's orchestration approach. Today, Chinese leaders deploy incentives and innovative policies to mobilize a vast array of companies, banks, and local officials to rapidly expand trade and investment with targeted countries around the world. China's economic statecraft thus requires only a light touch. Four chapters comparing China's economic statecraft across Europe, and in Myanmar and North Korea, reveal Beijing's orchestration in action. Policymakers combined delegation with incentives, encouraged participation by regional authorities and enterprises, and facilitated interest alignment among implementing actors to successfully mobilize domestic actors. When problems with enterprise malfeasance, policy stretching, and moral hazards emerged, central leaders adroitly reversed course. Despite successful implementation, Beijing's economic statecraft exacerbated populist anxieties, undermining China's foreign policy goals. The policy implications for countries targeted by China's economic statecraft are thus broadly reassuring. Orchestration concludes by laying a foundation for future studies in comparative economic statecraft"--Provided by publisher.
