This carefully crafted ebook: "THE ATLANTIS COLLECTION - 6 Books About The Mythical Lost World: Plato's Original Myth + The Lost Continent + The Story of Atlantis + The Antedeluvian World + New Atlantis" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents: The Original Myth of Atlantis (Plato) Timaeus Critias New Atlantis (Francis Bacon) Atlantis: The Antedeluvian World (Ignatius Donnelly) The Lost Continent (C. J. Cutcliffe Hyne) The Story of Atlantis (William Scott-Elliot) Atlantis ("island of Atlas") is a mystical island mentioned within an allegory on the hubris of nations in Plato's works Timaeus and Critias, where it represents the antagonist naval power that besieges "Ancient Athens". Plato's indications of the time of the events—more than 9,000 years before his day, and the alleged location of Atlantis—"beyond the Pillars of Hercules", has led to much scientific speculation. As a consequence, Atlantis has become a byword for any and all supposed advanced prehistoric lost civilizations. At the end of the story, Atlantis eventually falls out of favor with the gods and famously submerges into the Atlantic Ocean. Despite its secondary importance in Plato's work, the Atlantis story has had a considerable impact on literature. The allegorical aspect of Atlantis was taken up in utopian works of several Renaissance writers, such as Francis Bacon's New Atlantis. On the other hand, 19th-century scholars interpreted Plato's account as historical tradition, most notably in Ignatius L. Donnelly's Atlantis: The Antediluvian World. Many of his theories are the source of many modern-day concepts about Atlantis, including these: the civilization and technology beyond its time, the origins of all present races and civilizations, and a civil war between good and evil. Much of Donnelly's scholarship, especially with regard to Atlantis as an explanation for similarities between ancient civilizations of the Old and New Worlds.

First described by the Greek philosopher Plato in the year 360 bce, Atlantis was a naval power located at the Pillars of Hercules (today's Strait of Gibraltar) that had successfully conquered large swaths of Western Europe. After its defeat, Atlantis then sunk into the sea, never to be seen or heard from again. For centuries, this tale of Atlantis was largely forgotten until the 1882 publication of Atlantis: The Antediluvian World by American writer Ignatius L. Donnelly. In it, Donnelly made the claim that all ancient civilizations were descended from Atlantis, which was, in his eyes, a technologically advanced culture whose impact was felt throughout Europe, the Middle East, and North and South America. Since the publication of Donnelly's book, speculation and theorizing about Atlantis has been continuous, with writers making claims for Atlantis being located everywhere from Mexico to Nigeria to Indonesia to AntarcticaOCoeven Wisconsin. Atlantis separates the myths from the facts, investigates the historical idea of Atlantis, and looks at the latest archaeological findings that seem to indicate a reality behind Plato's original story.

The Lost Continent: The Story of Atlantis is a fantasy novel by C. J. Cutcliffe Hyne. It is considered one of the classic fictional retellings of the story of the drowning of Atlantis, combining elements of the myth told by Plato with the earlier Greek myth concerning the survival of a universal flood and restoration of the human race by Deucalion. The novel was published first in serial form in Pearson's Magazine in the issues for July-December 1899, and in hardcover book form by Hutchinson (London) and Harpers (New York) in 1900. There have been several editions since. Its was reissued Ballantine Books as the forty-second volume of the Ballantine Adult Fantasy series during February 1972. Subsequent editions were issued by Oswald Train in 1974 and by Bison Books in 2002. The Ballantine edition includes an introduction by Lin Carter, and the Bison edition one by Harry Turtledove. Armchair Fiction released it as volume 12 of their "Lost World-Lost Race" series in 2017.
