The Bader Collection stands among the great private collections of its kind in the world. For the past 40 years Dr. Alfred Bader of Milwaukee has donated works to the Agnes Etherington Art Centre at his Canadian alma mater, Queens University, where the entire Bader Collection will be housed . This extraordinary collection demonstrates a rich interplay of interests and insights, at the same time drawing back the curtain on the motivations and principles behind these remarkable acquisitions, whose history dates back to 1950. This scholarly publication presents 200 Dutch and Flemish Baroque paintings that form the collections focus. Exhaustively researched, the richly illustrated entries present each painting in detail. An introductory essay explores the life of this remarkable collector and the motivations that drive his pursuit of the art of the Age of Rembrandt with such passion and insight.

"Art, Life, Legacy: Northern European Paintings in the Collection of Isabel and Alfred Bader celebrates the extraordinary collection once held by Isabel and Alfred Bader. The works in this catalogue represent some of the finest pieces in The Bader Collection, and they likewise reflect the values embodied by Bader along with his first wife, Helen (Danny) Bader, and his second wife, Isabel Bader. Nearly a third of the paintings in this catalogue represent scenes from the Hebrew bible. The themes depicted in these paintings-generosity, faith, sacrifice, struggle, journey, and the importance of family-are a direct reflection of those values. Further works reflect Alfred Bader's lifelong fascination with Rembrandt van Rijn and how the field of Dutch and Flemish art continues to evolve and change with new generations of scholarship"--

A Corpus Of Rembrandt Paintings Iv written by Ernst van de Wetering and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-10-18 with Art categories.

Volume IV of A Corpus of Rembrandt Paintings deals uniquely with the self-portraits of Rembrandt. In a clearly written explanatory style the head of the Rembrandt Research Project and Editor of this Volume, Ernst van de Wetering, discusses the full body of work of paintings and etchings portraying Rembrandt. He sets the different parameters for accepting or rejecting a Rembrandt self-portrait as such, whilst also discussing the exact working environment of Rembrandt and his apprentices. This workshop setting created a surroundings where apprentices could be involved in working on Rembrandt paintings making it more difficult to determine the hand of the master. Van de Wetering, who is one of the Rembrandt experts of our day and age, goes down to great detail to explain how the different self-portraits are made and what techniques Rembrandt uses, also giving an overview of which paintings are to be attributed to the Dutch Master and which not. In the additional catalogue the self-portraits are examined in detail. In clear and accessible explanatory text the different paintings are discussed, larded with immaculate images of each painting. Details are shown where possible, as well as the results of modern day technical imaging like X-radiography. This work of art history and art research should be part of every serious art historical institute, university or museum. Nowhere in the art history have all Rembrandt’s self portraits been discussed in such detailed and comparative manner by an authority such as Ernst van de Wetering. This is a standard work for decades to come.

Jan Van Noordt written by David de Witt and has been published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-11-02 with Art categories.

De Witt offers a detailed biography based on a thorough review of the documentary evidence. He traces Van Noordt's origins back to a prominent musical family, details his artistic development under the guidance of prominent Amsterdam painter Jacob Adriaensz Backer, and reveals his synthesis of the styles of the two dominant Netherlandish artists, Rubens and Rembrandt. Using a systematic analysis of technique, manner, and approach to form, de Witt proves that over half the paintings and drawings presently attributed to Van Noordt are not his work - virtually recasting the accomplishments of an artist whose vibrant, often daring works challenge our concept of seventeenth-century Dutch art.

"The second volume of Alfred Bader's remarkable autobiography begins where Adventures of a Chemist Collector ended - with the boardroom coup in which Alfred was dismissed from the chemical company he had built up from the ground. He now turns his enormous energy to old master paintings, in which he has been interested from a young age and in which he now has the means to invest." "What follows is a series of notes and stories on the world of art seen through the eyes of Alfred Bader: particularly meaningful paintings or groups of paintings, descriptions of memorable auctions, mysteries and discoveries relating to the artworks in the Bader Collection. All this is infused with insights on friends, family, love, religion, charity, and, occasionally, chemistry."--BOOK JACKET.
