" And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased - Mark 1:9-11Beautifully illustrated for children, "The Baptism of Jesus, a story from the Jordan River" tells the story of the inspiring meeting between Jesus and his precursor, John the Baptist. The ancient Jordan River and the contemporary baptismal site "Yardenit on the River" perform a leading role as well. Yardenit provides the place for pilgrims to experience the presence of the Lord and renewal of their faith through Baptism in the Jordan River. The venue hosts over half a million visitors yearly, coming from the four corners of the earth. Most of them make a rededication of immersion; Some are baptized for the first time. For all, it represents the fulfillment of a dream: to immerse in the holy waters of the Jordan River, the very same waters in which John baptized Jesus. In addition to the remarkable illustrations of the historical events, in the book you will find photos of the baptismal pools and of the "wall of New Life" that encircles "Yardenit", bearing the verses of Mark in more than 100 languages and dialects. The author, Jim Reimann, was an ordained minister, Bible teacher, an editor and author. In his lifetime he led more than 25 pilgrimages to the Holy land.

" And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: and there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased" - Mark 1:9-11. Beautifully illustrated for children, "Jesus is baptized in the Jordan River" tells the story of this inspiring meeting between Jesus and his precursor, John the Baptist. Situated in a pristine natural environment at the point where the Jordan River meets the Dead Sea in southern Israel, Qasr El-Yahud is believed to be the location where John baptized his cousin, Jesus of Nazareth. It quates: "John did baptize in the wilderness (...) and there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins" (Mark 1:4-5). Archeological remains from the Roman and Byzantine periods, including the mosaics map of Madaba from the sixth century, testify to an ongoing tradition of baptism in this area throughout the generations. Today, hundreds of thousands of Christian pilgrims, following their savior, come to Qasr El-Yahud to experience the presence of the Lord and to renew their faith through Baptism in the Jordan River. The author Jim Reimann was an ordained minister and a Bible teacher. In his lifetime he led more than 25 pilgrimages to Israel, which helped him to ensure that these children's Bible stories are biblically correct as well as historically accurate.

THE VARIATIONS OF BAPTISM THE VARIATIONS OF BAPTISM Baptism is a ritualistic ceremony that is performed for the sake of signifying an open expression of whom it is that one might say they believe in. A religious ablution signifies one being spiritually purified or cleansed. This is customary in Judaism. It is an outward display that usually takes place in a religious setting, regardless of denomination. There are thousands of religions worldwide with countless variations and rules of baptism, but when Jesus was baptized by His cousin John the Baptist with water in the Jordan River, he did so to install Jesus into His office of being our redeemer. It is a mistake made by mankind to believe that when we are baptized with water, we somehow have majestically been made holy and accepted by God. Nothing can be further from the truth as true baptism is only given by the Holy Spirit. 23 23

River Jordan written by Rachel Havrelock and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-10-27 with Religion categories.

As the site of several miracles in the Jewish and Christian traditions, the Jordan is one of the world’s holiest rivers. It is also the major political and symbolic border contested by Israelis and Palestinians. Combining biblical and folkloric studies with historical geography, Rachel Havrelock explores how the complex religious and mythological representations of the river have shaped the current conflict in the Middle East. Havrelock contends that the intractability of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict stems from the nationalist myths of the Hebrew Bible, where the Jordan is defined as a border of the Promised Land. Both Israelis and Palestinians claim the Jordan as a necessary boundary of an indivisible homeland. Examining the Hebrew Bible alongside ancient and modern maps of the Jordan, Havrelock chronicles the evolution of Israel’s borders based on nationalist myths while uncovering additional myths that envision Israel as a bi-national state. These other myths, she proposes, provide roadmaps for future political configurations of the nation. Ambitious and masterful in its scope, River Jordan brings a fresh, provocative perspective to the ongoing struggle in this violence-riddled region.
