In The Battle for the Trinity, Dr. Bloesch tackles the controversial issues surrounding the questions of God-language and their potential as one of the most divisive issues facing the church in the twentieth century. Should God be addressed as Father, Mother or Parent, should Jesus be referred to primarily as the Son of God or the Child of God, did God really reveal himself definitively in the person of his Son Jesus Christ? Bloesch contends that how we speak about God embodies the very core of Christianity and how we ultimately understand the biblical and historical meaning of the Trinity itself. The debates surrounding the Doctrine of God are many, and Bloesch urges the church to respond to the concerns of women that the sacred carries both masculine and feminine dimensions. Bloesch emphasizes that the God of the Bible is not described in masculine terms exclusively, and we err in our failure to recognize it. If Christianity is to remain genuinely ChristianÓ, these controversial issues must be dealt with in such a manner that will preserve the full historical and biblical understanding of the Trinity.

There are few beliefs more essential to Christianity than that of the Trinity. Millard Erickson seeks to provide a lucid and judicious answer to the question: Is Jesus eternally subordinate to the Father, or is Jesus equal with the Father? In addition to providing rigorous theological analysis of that question, Erickson exposes flaws in familial implications derived from the Trinity. This increasingly debated topic has finally received a thorough, careful, and objective treatment.

Houses Of The Interpreter written by David Lyle Jeffrey and has been published by Baylor University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2003 with Religion categories.
In Houses of the Interpreter, David Lyle Jeffrey explores the terrain of the cultural history of biblical interpretation. But Jeffrey does not merely rest content to chart biblical scholarship and how it has both influenced and been influenced by culture. Instead, he chooses to focus upon the "art" of Biblical interpretation --how sculptors, musicians, poets, novelists, and painters have "read" the Bible. By so doing, Jeffrey clearly demonstrates that such cultural interpretation has deepened the church's understanding of the Bible as Scripture and that, remarkably, this cultural reading has contributed to theology and the practice of faith. Jeffrey's chapters effectively root the theological issues central to any hermeneutical enterprise (e.g., Scriptural authority, narrative, the Old Testament as Christian Scripture, the role of the reader, gender, and postmodernism) in specific authors and artists (e.g., Chaucer, Bosch, Sir Orfeo, C. S. Lewis) --and he does this in constant conversation with literature, both eastern and western.

The brilliant retelling of the Wars of the Roses continues with Trinity, the second gripping novel in the new series from historical fiction master, Conn Iggulden. 1454: King Henry VI has remained all but exiled in Windsor Castle, struck down by his illness for over a year, his eyes vacant, his mind a blank. His fiercely loyal wife and Queen, Margaret of Anjou, safeguards her husband's interests, hoping that her son Edward will one day know the love of his father. Richard Duke of York, Protector of the Realm, extends his influence throughout the kingdom with each month that Henry slumbers. The Earls of Salisbury and Warwick make up a formidable trinity with Richard, and together they seek to break the support of those who would raise their colours in the name of Henry and his Queen. But when the King unexpectedly recovers his senses and returns to London to reclaim his throne, the balance of power is once again thrown into turmoil. The clash of the Houses of Lancaster and York will surely mean a war to tear England apart . . . Following on from Stormbird, Trinity is the second epic instalment in master storyteller Conn Iggulden's new Wars of the Roses series. Fans of Game of Thrones and The Tudors will be gripped from the word go. Praise for Stormbird: 'Pacey and juicy, and packed with action' Sunday Times 'Energetic, competent stuff; Iggulden knows his material and his audience' Independent 'A novel that seamlessly combines narrative, historical credence and great knowledge of the period' Daily Express 'A page-turning thriller' Mail on Sunday 'Superbly plotted and paced' The Times

At the center of Christianity is Jesus of Nazareth--whose maleness is used by many to justify the subordination of women and to emphasize that men, rather than women, better represent Jesus. This raises a number of questions that are the subject of this book. What is the significance of Jesus' maleness? Does it reveal the character of God? Is it foundational for the gospel? Is Jesus' maleness associated with an ongoing created order of male priority? Our answers will affect Christianity's task of love, justice, and reconciliation in a world that is characterized by the global marginalization, oppression, and abuse of women.
The Rise And Fall Of The Complementarian Doctrine Of The Trinity

The Rise And Fall Of The Complementarian Doctrine Of The Trinity written by Kevin Giles and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-14 with Religion categories.
Since the late 1970s complementarian theologians have been arguing that the divine three persons in the Trinity are ordered hierarchically, and that this is the ground for the hierarchical ordering of the sexes. Suddenly and unexpectedly in June 2016 a number of complementarian theologians of confessional Reformed convictions came out and said that to so construe the Trinity is ""heresy""; it is a denial of what the creeds and confessions of the church rule is the teaching of Scripture. A civil war among complementarians followed and in a very short time those arguing for hierarchical ordering in the Trinity capitulated. This book tells the story. ""Kevin Giles' work in this book is a very important addition to the recent Trinity debate. While we may disagree on the issue of ordaining women, we are in agreement on the importance of the creeds and confessions in informing our understanding of the Trinity. This book will be extremely helpful for those who want to understand why the complementarian Trinity debate happened, how the orthodox doctrine of the Trinity was formed, and why what we believe about the Trinity is essential. I highly recommend it."" --Rachel Miller, News Editor, the Aquila Report, author of A Daughter of the Reformation ""I wish complementarians would read this book! While I can happily disagree whether eternal subordination of the Son was the complementarian position on the Trinity, Kevin demonstrates how pervasive it was and how it was promoted, without opposition, by some of the leading voices in complementarianism. This is a book that demands the church to uphold first order doctrines and warns it never to be led again by a social agenda."" --Aimee Byrd, author of Housewife Theologian, Theological Fitness, and No Little Women ""Kevin Giles tells the compelling story of the rise and fall of the complementarian doctrine of the Trinity, which espoused a hierarchical view of the Father/Son relationship to argue that women are subordinate to men as the Son was supposedly subordinate to the Father in eternity. He explains why the Nicene homoousion must be defended against all forms of Arian subordination, and persuasively argues that if complementarians and egalitarians can and do now agree about this, then the ground will be cleared for suitable discussion of the ministry of women in the Church. Those interested in these matters will want to read this book."" --Paul D. Molnar, Professor of Systematic Theology, St. John's University, Queens Kevin Giles (ThD) is an Australian Anglican minister who was in parish ministry for over forty years. He is the author of, The Trinity and Subordinationism (2002); Jesus and the Father (2006), and, The Eternal Generation of the Son (2012).

Even geniuses need practice Not everything goes to plan at the first attempt… In Da Vinci’s downstairs loo hung his first, borderline insulting, versions of the Mona Lisa. Michelangelo’s back garden was chock-a-block full of ugly lumps of misshapen marble. Even Einstein committed a great ‘blunder’ in his first go at General Relativity. God is no different, this universe may be his masterpiece, but there were many failed versions before it – and they’re still out there. Far Far Beyond Berlin is a fantasy novel, which tells the story of a lonely, disillusioned government worker’s adventures after being stranded in a faraway universe – Joy World: God’s first, disastrous attempt at creation. God’s previous universes, a chain of 6 now-abandoned worlds, are linked by a series of portals. Our jaded hero must travel back through them, past the remaining dangers and bizarre stragglers. He’ll join forces with a jolly, eccentric and visually arresting, crew of sailors on a mysteriously flooded world. He’ll battle killer robots and play parlour games against a clingy supercomputer, with his life hanging in the balance. He’ll become a teleportation connoisseur; he will argue with a virtual goose – it sure beats photocopying. Meanwhile, high above in the heavens, an increasingly flustered God tries to manage the situation with His best friend Satan; His less famous son, Jeff; and His ludicrously angry angel of death, a creature named Fate. They know that a human loose in the portal network is a calamity that could have apocalyptic consequences in seven different universes. Fate is dispatched to find and kill the poor man before the whole place goes up in a puff of smoke; if he can just control his temper… Cover art: Gordon Miller
