For with every stride that he took, he was learning more and more. With every breath that he take, he must seek to be more efficient, more organised and more effective. For all that it's worth, the glory of life resides in the Beauty of Learning. Let your behaviour be consciously determined, for it is a matter of choice. 'Oh, look what you made me do' is neither true nor helpful, for it is by our own thoughts that our actions are determined. To blame others and the environment for our behaviour is to ignore the root cause for our actions, our own choices. Every action can be assessed for its efficiency and where our efforts are rooted in disciplined actions, our success is quite remarkable. Action without sustained and efficient effort is futile, leading to minimal progress or even decline. Action with every ounce of your being ignited in the passion of your achievement, creates greatness.The one thing we have total control over is our own attitude. While the behaviour of others can affect us, so too can the efforts of others on whom we might depend from time to time. The one thing no one can determine for you is your own attitude. That is completely yours. So, your team is down and you are not well. You can give in or give everything to win. The way we perceive all situations determines our attitude, so look for the solution and focus on the good and positive.With understanding life becomes easy. Without understanding, life is hard. To understand what we did, what we are doing, and what is to come, makes learning the center stage for progress.To learn is to understand the knowledge you have acquired by means of application. So understanding is at the heart of The Beauty of Learning.To understand the need for targets is to realize the need for direction. Pedagogy and hierarchy are intimately connected. This book traces historical versions of the relationship between hierarchy and education through four key figures: Plato, Augustine, Abelard and Dante. Each provided canonical contributions to how hierarchies both work and fail in education: Plato through the ladder of beauty and the cave metaphor; Augustine through his Confessions; Abelard through his relationship with Heloise; and Dante through the Divine Comedy. All four worked within the tradition of a Great Chain of Being. Its basic premise was that there were qualitatively different orders of experience that needed to be described with the intent of pedagogically revealing to the reader how to travel through the varying stages. As such this tradition exists as one of the great repositories of hierarchical pedagogic practice in the West. This book is an introduction to the history of hierarchical teaching practice by describing various journeys of learning and discussing the techniques and paths used in the process.
