Dating? Courtship? There's something better. The current way our society prepares a single person for marriage has led to an increase in broken marriages and moral disintegration. The ten couples in this book have trailblazed a new, yet ancient and beautiful path to marriage called bethrothal. These couples' families saw the need to go a different direction--a direction that points toward Yeshua (Jesus) and His spotless Bride. The Tommy and Sherri Waller family is well represented in these love stories. Tommy writes: "Many of these accounts are written by my own children. Their testimonies are the result of God's mercy in making a presentation to me and my wife, Sherri, many years ago. He enabled us to see clearly that our children were at great risk ... Which of our children would make it and which ones would fall? ... [W]e [now] have five married children. All of them have chosen to walk through the beautiful process of betrothal. There has never been a time in my life when I have witnessed anything close to the intensity of love birthed from two undefiled hearts as I have in betrothal. Every betrothal I witness confirms in me the Father's true grace-the unmerited favor He desires to lavish on all of us." Brayden Waller writes: "The bridegroom heart of God is a recurring theme throughout Scripture. The Bible actually begins and ends with a wedding: first, Adam and Eve in the garden, and last, the marriage supper of the Lamb. Betrothal is an essential key to this whole story. To understand this ancient and Biblical way of marriage is to better understand the relationship we have with God. ... Unlike engagement, betrothal is an actual covenant that is made prior to the wedding day ... [which] is the very thing God has done with us! He has made a covenant with us by the blood of Yeshua and the wedding is yet to come. Revelation 19:7 tells us of this coming wedding, 'Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife has made herself ready.' ... Betrothal is much further reaching than the confines of a culture. It is something that the LORD Himself participates in. He says in Hosea 2:19-20, 'I will betroth you to Me forever, yes I will betroth you to Me in righteousness and justice, in loving kindness and mercy I will betroth you to Me in faithfulness, and you will know the LORD.' ... Whether you are reading this book for the spiritual application of being betrothed to Yeshua, or you are interested in betrothal as the way you want to start your covenant with your future spouse, know that entering into covenant with someone is no small matter. "For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you a pure virgin to Messiah" (2 Corinthians 11:2). ... May your love for Him be stirred to new heights as you read this book."

Many interpreters of the Fourth Gospel detect allusions to biblical texts about marriage, but none offers a comprehensive analysis of these proposed allusions or a convincing explanation for their presence. Building on the work of Richard Hays, Donald Juel and Craig Koester, in this 2006 book Jocelyn McWhirter argues that John alludes to biblical texts about marriage in order to develop a metaphor for Jesus and how he relates to his followers. According to McWhirter, John chooses these texts because he uses a first-century exegetical convention to interpret them as messianic prophecies in light of an accepted messianic text. Specifically, he uses verbal parallels to link them to Psalm 45, a wedding song for God's anointed king. He then draws on them to portray Jesus as a bridegroom-Messiah and to depict Jesus' relationship with his followers in terms of marriage.

The History of mankind is very cyclical. How often has it been said, "history repeats itself." Since time immemorial a repetitive theme in the human drama is Gnosticism, a teaching that special hidden knowledge leads to spiritual enlightenment. Gnostic myths have also focused on the sexual union of gods or goddesses with humans. The recent furor over the fictional novel and movie, The Da Vinci Code, has once again challenged the authenticity of the Christian Gospel, and brought new focus on Gnostic myths. Readers and movie-goers are encouraged to accept the dubious writings of "lost gospels" and reject the canonical teachings of the Bible. In those 2nd and 3rd century sources, the real Jesus who interacted with leaders, cared for the weak and sick, even loving the dregs of society, is exchanged for a strange creature that only appears to be human and bears no likeness to the Jewish man who died on a cruel Roman Cross. Beyond Da Vinci presents the real Jesus through the rich nuptial imagery of the Old and New Testaments. The reader meets the true Bride of Christ and learns of the incredible consummation of Bride and Bridegroom that is yet to come. Are there false Brides? Was Jesus of Nazareth married? Was he just a man or was he divine? Come partake of this incredible journey through the greatest romance of history; a journey to the truth.

This book sheds new light on the women in the Fourth Gospel. Unlike most works that approach the topic from a historical-critical perspective, this book approaches the topic from a historical-literary perspective and attempts to illustrate for the modern reader how a first-century reader would have understood the characterizations of the women, given first-century cultural and literary norms and the theology of the implied author. The thesis of this book is that the primary purpose of the women in the Fourth Gospel is to support the portrayal of Jesus as the Messianic Bridegroom and further the plot of Jesus' giving the people the power to become children of God (John 1:12). This historical-literary analysis exposes a highly androcentric and patriarchal text, which leads the author in the end to question current assumptions that behind the text exists a community or school whose egalitarianism extended to women.
