A suspenseful and emotional journey which reveals something we all secretly wish for. Allow yourself to be taken in by the unimaginable idea of visiting heaven...or is it all in the mind? Dr. Ethan Lewis's past doesn't allow him the luxury of sleep. He's guided by guilt and heartache, both of which motivated him to perfect the unorthodox treatment for anxiety and depression. But, when his lab assistant, Kyle, pushes the limits of the treatment, he threatens his own life and reveals the drug has unimaginable reach. Lies, deceit, and a revelation regarding Dr. Lewis's past halt the aggressive trials, but Kyle's new love interest provides the final blow. A rift forms between the two best friends. Kyle's disloyalty begins a cascade of events leading Dr. Lewis to enter The Beyond Experience himself in order to solve a string of missing persons. What he finds inside will destroy his beliefs, and, provides the answer to why his fiance spoke those final haunting words as she died in his arms; "forgive me."

Architecture Beyond Experience written by Michael Benedikt and has been published by ORO Applied Research + Design this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-03-15 with Architecture categories.

Architecture Beyond Experience is an interdisciplinary work in the service of one goal: the bringing about of a more relational, "posthuman" and yet humanist strain in architecture. It argues against the values that currently guide much architectural production (and the larger economy's too), which is the making, marketing, and staging of ever more arresting experiences. The result, in architecture, is experientialism: the belief that what gives a building value, aside from fulfilling its shelter functions, is how its views and spaces make us personally feel as we move around it. I argue that it's time to find a deeper basis for making and judging architecture, a basis which is not personal-experience-multiplied, but which is dialogical and relational from the start. I use the word relational to describe an architecture that guides people in search of encounter with (or avoidance of) each other and that manifests and demonstrates those same desires in its own forms, components, and materials. Buildings are beings. When architecture, they teach as well as protect; they tell us who we were and who we want to be; they exemplify, they deserve respect, invite investment, and reward affection. These are social-relational values, values that both underlie and go beyond experiential ones (sometimes called "phenomenological"). Such relational values have been suppressed, in part because architects have joined the Experience Economy, hardly noticing they have done so. Architecture Beyond Experience provides the argument and the concepts to ultimately re-center a profession.

Experiencing the dimension that lies beyond our empirical grasp of the world has always been a challenge for human beings, for it can expose the limitations of our agency. Such experience, while potentially terrifying, can also furnish a basis for religious faith or hope of a better future. The intercultural essays in this volume analyze ways of dealing with the beyond, including magic, religion, myth, and all-promising utopias.

Beyond Human Nature written by Jesse J Prinz and has been published by Penguin UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-01-26 with Philosophy categories.

In this provocative, revelatory tour de force, Jesse Prinz reveals how the cultures we live in - not biology - determine how we think and feel. He examines all aspects of our behaviour, looking at everything from our intellects and emotions, to love and sex, morality and even madness. This book seeks to go beyond traditional debates of nature and nurture. He is not interested in finding universal laws but, rather, in understanding, explaining and celebrating our differences. Why do people raised in Western countries tend to see the trees before the forest, while people from East Asia see the forest before the trees? Why, in South East Asia, is there a common form of mental illness, unheard of in the West, in which people go into a trancelike state after being startled? Compared to Northerners, why are people in the American South more than twice as likely to kill someone over an argument? And, above all, just how malleable are we? Prinz shows that the vast diversity of our behaviour is not engrained. He picks up where biological explanations leave off. He tells us the human story.

"EXPERIENTIAL EDUCATION "This book brings a thoughtful and refreshing perspective on experiential education. Educators interested in outdoor learning, service learning, and place-based learning will find in Roberts' analysis a critical understanding of what learning by doing means." Dilafruz Williams, Portland State University What is experiential education? What are its theoretical roots? Where does this approach come from? Offering a fresh and distinctive take, this book is about going beyond "learning by doing" through an exploration of its underlying theoretical currents. As an increasingly popular pedagogical approach, experiential education encompasses a variety of curriculum projects from outdoor and environmental education to service learning and place-based education. While each of these sub-fields has its own history and particular approach, they draw from the same progressive intellectual taproot. Each, in its own way, evokes the power of "learning by doing" and "direct experience" in the educational process. By unpacking the assumed homogeneity in these terms to reveal the underlying diversity of perspectives inherent in their usage, this book allows readers to see how the approaches connect to larger conversations and histories in education and social theory, placing experiential education in social and historical context. Combining a critical philosophical approach with practical examples from the field, Beyond Learning by Doing gives readers both an excellent summary of the theoretical histories of experiential education and a thesis-driven argument about the current state of the field and its future possibilities and limitations Jay W. Roberts is Associate Professor of Education and Environmental Studies, Earlham College"-- Provided by publisher.

The Doctorate as Experience in Europe and Beyond presents a detailed and fascintating account of completing a doctorate from the perspectives of researchers, supervisors and students. It provides an in-depth insight through qualitative data, interpretative methods and insider experiences for a truly unique perspective. Given the popularity of doctoral studies and their increasing importance outside of academia, the PhD has needed to evolve and develop, particularly given its role in the internationalization of universities. Drawing on in-depth interviews with international participants, this book explores case studies and comparative analysis of the dimensions of researcher identity, the processes of supervision and the use of languages for teaching and learning and conducting research. Providing a keen insight into how the internationalization of higher education is affecting the doctoral experience, The Doctorate as Experience in Europe and Beyond is ideal reading for all academics, doctoral supervisors and examiners as well as postgraduate students involved in doctoral education.
